About KATHLYN BALDONADO:
Although it is a huge consideration to employ someone like me who doesn’t have the medical office experience most employers are looking for, I will say that what I lack in experience is made up for through simulations provided by my Bachelors degree education in Health Science. At York College, I’ve studied in classes such as healthcare ethics, healthcare policy, medical terminology, and health informatics to help prepare me for the healthcare administration field. In my health informatics class we’ve worked with many EHR systems; one of them being Dr. Chronos. I aspire to work in the medical administration field because it is my passion to put my energetic impression to good use in a place that can be overwhelming (such as hospitals and doctors’ offices) for both staff and patients.
Many of those who have worked with me can remark on my excellent organization and data entry skills for both paper and online documents. My most recent employer gifted me 3 years of experience working in foster group homes where all my skills were put to work. Although it was a more heavily hands on experience working with young adults with both intellectual disabilities and emotional disturbances my supervisor, Kimberlyn Brown, gave me the responsibility of handling paperwork knowing that I can juggle the cleaning, cooking, log entry, phone calls, counseling and tutoring all while in a hostile environment. This should remark on my flexibility, multitasking and agility skills working with men and women (both with criminal records) along with my empathetic nature to help nurture those who weren’t privileged the stable and peaceful lifestyle most of us have come to know.
I’m confident that what I’ve experienced working in a foster care setting in combination with my health science bachelors education will help me become a successful patient care coordinator or medical office recipient in the healthcare administration field. I have aspirations of working in hospital settings and taking steps in my healthcare career in hopes of contributing to a better healthcare system for the future.
From,
Kathlyn Baldonado
Experience
My responsibilities as a direct support professional was to provide and assist routines of personal care for young adults and elderly people with intellectual and physical disabilities as well as emotional disturbances. This includes grooming, advising, cleaning, cooking, and conducting activities that better shapes the lives of the individual's in the community. My supervisor personally made me responsible for paperwork and phone calls at 2 foster care group homes.
Education
As of December 2020, I've completed my bachelors education in health science at CUNY York College. The Health Science program at CUNY York College helped prepare me for the healthcare administrative field by requiring health informatics, healthcare ethics, healthcare policy, and medical terminology necessary for graduation. I have acknowledgment of HIPAA policy and EHR experience due to simulations provided to me from my school.
