Juliet Tonkin

Hello!  I am a senior Environmental Science and Spanish student at Stetson University in DeLand, Florida.  I have experience with environmental outreach and programming at non-profit and government organizations.  I also love working in stormwater management and have experience completing inspections for MS4 permitted cities.  

Cuyahoga Soil and Water Conservation District, Cleveland, Ohio (Summer 2019, Summer 2022)

Stormwater Intern

• Observed bio-retention basin inspections, participated in pollinator planting, stream clean-up, worked in native garden, participated in invasive species clean outs, experienced construct inspections, and completed erosion tests
• Utilized Adobe InDesign for development of educational materials
• Worked alongside Stormwater Program Education Manager, assisted in environmental summer camp for elementary students, helped run an environmental development program for science teachers
• Obtained certificates for Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Gillespie Museum at Stetson University (August 2021-December 2022)

Restored Sandhill Intern

• Guiding visitors through one of the most comprehensive mineral collections in the southeast, assisting with earth science and natural history programming, conducting age-specific exhibit presentations, assisting with day-to-day museum operations
• Assisting with stewardship of Stetson’s Restored Sandhill Ecosystem

Ambassador

• Executed event programming for exchange students as well as outreach to increase global awareness
• Guiding international students through orientation, and supporting them throughout the school year

Stewardship Intern

• Guided Youth Stewards in volunteer activities and natural resource education
• Assisted with ongoing stewardship of the Nature Center’s 20 acres of natural habitats, trained in proper pesticide use as well as best management practices to mitigate harmful effects
• Examined and studied local flora and fauna of the NE Ohio region under guidance and education of a Natural Resource Specialist
• Greeted and directed park visitors to appropriate trails and experiences
