About joya Alves:
Junior, Business Administration Finance major. My interest in Finance developed through my personal experience of seeing the long-term effects of those who struggle financially. This encouraged me to strive for excellence and maintain a strong work ethic in all aspects of life. Through my business exploration throughout my high school curriculum, I realized my passion for critical analysis and problem-solving through my experience with DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America). It was my connections through DECA that prevailed in my aspirations to major in finance. My experience with DECA allowed me to gain crucial insight into proper networking, time management, organizational, and communication skills that led to me taking a role in leadership. I am optimistic about any future internship opportunities and aspire to hold a full-time position after earning my bachelor's degree in business finance.
Experience
At Subway, I honed my communication, sales, and leadership skills by engaging with customers and coworkers daily, delivering exceptional service by promoting menu items and handling inquiries. I efficiently prepared made-to-order food in a fast-paced environment, consistently surpassing customer expectations and enhancing order preparation efficiency. In the absence of a manager, I adeptly managed operations, coordinated with team members, trained new staff, processed transactions, monitored inventory, and maintained an organized workspace. Additionally, as a Residential Hall Security Officer at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, I ensured campus safety by regulating hall access, verifying IDs, registering guests, screening visitors, and promptly reporting emergencies to the UMass Police Department and Residence Hall Security dispatcher.
Education
am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance at the Isenberg School of Management, University of Massachusetts Amherst, with a cumulative GPA of 3.68. I have been recognized with the Dean’s Award and am a member of the Commonwealth Honors College. My coursework includes Financial Modeling, Investments, and Corporate Finance, providing me with a solid foundation in business analysis, investment strategies, and corporate financial management. Additionally, I actively participate in campus organizations such as Sigma Delta Tau, Isenberg Women in Business, and the Isenberg Honors Council, which have honed my leadership, networking, and community engagement skills.
