John Preston is a veteran fitness professional, educator, and industry advocate with over 32 years of experience in exercise science, program design, and professional coaching. Active in the fitness industry since 1993, John has accumulated more than 30,000 hours of direct, one-on-one personal training experience, including leadership roles as a Director of Personal Training and extensive applied work across commercial, clinical, and performance-based environments.
John holds a Master of Science in Exercise and Wellness from Arizona State University (2018) and a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology, with a specialization in Athletic Training, from California State University, Long Beach (1998). His academic training, combined with decades of applied coaching experience, forms the foundation of the evidence-based and practitioner-focused approach presented throughout this course.

Experience
John is the former Fitness Director at Gainey Village Health Club and Spa. Responsibilities include hiring and training of personal trainers and fitness concierges. Monitor and approve department payroll on a bi-monthly basis. Additional responsibilities include coordinate with the CFO and President to create departmental revenue goals and expense budget, track financial data and submit several monthly reports to the accounting department. Oversee the maintenance of fitness equipment and order replacement equipment as needed. Other responsibilities include managing the capital fitness budget and making decisions on capital improvements including ordering large item fitness equipment on an annual basis. Integration of new members, via our New Member Orientation with the personal training staff.
John is the educational content developer for TrueTurnPro, a rotational training device designed to enhance movement efficiency, force transfer, and athletic performance. His professional focus emphasizes applied biomechanics, kinesiology, long-term client development, and sustainable program design for general population and performance clients alike.
A dedicated mentor and educator, John is deeply committed to supporting the next generation of fitness professionals, helping them develop the technical competence, professional judgment, and career longevity necessary to thrive in an evolving fitness industry. His work consistently advocates for higher professional standards, evidence-based practice, and the elevation of personal training as a respected allied health profession.
