Through my company John Ebbert Creative, for 20 years I rendered, designed, and created large-scale displays and store environments at FAO Schwarz, Toys “R” Us Times Square, and The Scholastic Book Store, in New York City. I have an MFA in Painting from Pratt Institute. I am an active member of The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (Eastern New York), and the Hudson Valley Writers Workshop.

            When those retailers all closed their doors, I set up a publishing company, Dooleyglot, with my wife, artist/illustrator Mison Kim, to print a series of bilingual baby board books. We printed the first nine books in this series and released them just prior to the pandemic.

Experience

For many years I did the gambit as far as creating displays and store environments for children. My clients were the three largest toy stores in New York City. All of them did large-scale displays with an emphasis on fun. From building and installing to presentation renderings and design; creating artwork for print and 3D construction from subcontractors; I met with clients and took projects from conception to completion on time and within budget. Earlier in my career I managed a sign shop outside Washington DC, and was an art director for multiple monthly publications and direct mail in Laurel, Maryland.
