Joel Dethose

Hello! My name is Joel Dethose, and I'm looking to get involved in the ministry of spreading the Gospel and shepherding the church. I'm hard-working and personally motivated by Matthew 28:18-20, otherwise known as the Great Commission. However, I also recognize that one does not need to physically go to the ends of the earth in order to make disciples, so I'm looking forward to learning firsthand how to do so in a community.

I have led on several levels in a few organizations. Firstly, in my junior year of high school, I became a leadership officer at my school's FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes). There, I learned the behind-the-scenes aspects of planning events and making them happen. At the same time, I was involved in my youth group's Student Leadership Team, which taught me how to come up with incentives and things to attract newcomers to the church. The next year, I was named President of FCA at my school, and moved into a senior role on the student leadership team as well. As president, I learned how to manage a team of people and try and keep us all focused on the singular goal of reaching others for His name, as well as delegating tasks to keep things going. Once I reached college, I got involved at the BCM (Baptist Collegiate Ministry) at GSU, and quickly started attending “New Student Leadership” meetings, focused on getting new students involved. The next year (this year), I became a part of the official BCM Leadership Team, as the Outreach Team Leader and Director of New Students. In terms of official employment, I have worked for Chick-fil-A for the past 3 years, learning how to efficiently serve others as a team. This past year especially has been both tough and fruitful in my faith, after suffering setbacks and being forced to rely on God, but I'm looking forward to the future.

I have a high school diploma (graduated in 2020) and I have been enrolled at Georgia State University for 1 and ½ years. However, I have decided to step away from my previous plan of pursuing a computer science degree, and decided to answer the call God has laid on my heart. For that reason, I am seeking a place to learn and grow and gain experience in the ministry. I am also looking into attending seminary.
