About Jim Pazos:

I am 53 years old, single & in excellent health.

My background is primarily from the oilfield.  My total oilfield experience is 36 years, with last +31 years full time in it.  I have been a fluid engineer consultant since 2000, & before that, previously worked for enventives Llc as their lab manager & global tech support , MI Swaco & Baker Hughes Inteq (whom I went to mud school with).  Most of my experience is as a mud engineer, but I have experience with completion fluids also.  I also have previously have experience with logistics, planning & production operations.  I have performed much material & personnel management.  My experience is primarily U.S.A. based, having worked land rigs from north, south, west & east Tx, all over La, throughout Ms, western Oklahoma, New Mexico, North Dakota, Alaska’s Norther Slope, Utah & Eastern Ohio.  I have worked offshore from below Freeport Tx through & between below Theodore Al, including 10 deep water projects.  My work experience includes overseas in Venezuela & Brunei.  In Venezuela, in addition to fluid engineer for Conoco's Coro Coro project, I was also relief project engineer for MI Swaco.  My last project was in Brunei, drilling for KOV on a wildcat well.  This well was unusual as MI Swaco (whom I was consulting for) had no employees in the country.  In addition to lead mud engineer, I was also chief liaison to the energy company & doing inventory control, verification & ordering at the Schlumberger warehouse.

I have worked in Baker Hughes laboratory in New Orleans & spent several months running MI Swaco's lab in the Harvey, Louisiana USA office, the office responsible for most of Gulf of Mexico operations.   I also was MI Swaco's representative to work with the E.P.A. when they decided to rewrite the rules on Synthetic Based oil discharges in the Gulf of Mexico.   The EPA wanted 1 representative of each of the big 3 mud companies (MI, Baroid & Baker).   That was of critical importance, because the synthetic business was the main source of revenue for.

Specialized in & extensive knowledge and experience in the area of drilling fluids application, servicing and environmental regulations included but not limited to advisory, measuring, testing and supervising the running of fluid mixing and pumping, technical analysis and specific product and practical recommendations for controlling fluid properties. Expert in recommendation of the adequate solids control equipment necessary for optimal economic solids removal and to keep an acceptable track record of the percentage low gravity solids of a mud system, thereby, maintaining the well integrity and reduction of completion time and cost resulting from drilling complications arising from drilling mud issues. Implementation of fervent regular interval after-action-review on mud systems to ensure that all acceptable standards and requirements were/are maintained and environmental legislation strictly observed. Technical guidance and work direction to field staff and customers, as well as, performs pre and post job evaluations, paperwork processing, monitors invoicing, directs bidding, pricing proposals and reviews contracts.

Prior to being into drilling fluids, I spent 2 years running logistics for drilling operations. Before that, I spent 5 years in the production side of the O&G industry, running major production platforms throughout the Gulf of Mexico.

I volunteer time to help contribute to my profession in several ways; I am an editor at oges.com.  I am on the committee for revising API RP 13L (standards & qualifications for a drilling fluid technologist), the API committee on Starch specifications (SC13 WG5), & the API RP committee on shale shaker screen designations (SC13 WG2).  I have doing peer review & adding contributions to the IADC Drilling fluids chapter & drilling fluids safety chapters for main writer, Mr. Paul Scott (ConocoPhilis).  I also am a frequent contributor to many of our industries forums & also manage several professional groups on LinkedIn including the “Mud Engineer” group with over 13,000 members.
