Jennifer Sotelo

My name is Jennifer Sotelo and I am a Art Education Major at CSUF and a minor in Psychology. Graduation date is May of 2026. I have been a para-educator for six years and have provided support for students grades PreK to 12 grade. I have also been the Art Advisor for our Art Club for my school of employment. Helping others and teaching art are my two passions and purposes in life. 

I have hade the wonderful opportunity to work as a para-educator for the past six years. I have worked with grade levels, PrK to 12th grade. I have volunteered and supported our students to create our Art Club at my place of employment for the past two years. Empowering students to develop creativity, confidence, leadership, community and culture is what I strive for everyday. Being a para-educator has taught me many things but most of all has given me the opportunity to understand how to create access to education while incorporating differentiating and expressive modalities. 

Working in education has enriched my life and aspirations. The experience of working with my students and providing the support and fun learning environment allows them to feel safe and thrive in the arts and in their day to day lives. Creating the Art Club provided a creative positive outlet for students to engage and contribute to school climate and culture. In turn they pay it forward and teach others as well as build relationships that create a positive impact. My students have shared that having a creative outlet allowed them to practice mindfulness and in turn benefited them academically. Creating multiple positive inspiration and changes is what I like to do.
