Administrative
About Jennifer Hurry:
I am a senior data analyst/business analyst with 30 years of professional experience. I have great sql, data analysis skills, database and application security, IT documentation, IT Lifecycle, ERP Implementations, and I am functional with python for data analysis. I have a MS in Data Analytics, and have built a few Predictive models.
I am passionate about my kids, who are grown-ups now - one is a plant biologist and one is a cosmetologist. I also have dogs, and they are my babies now that my kids are grown. I have a husband too, who is the bomb diggedy.
I am seeking to transition to a job where I can use my knowledge and understanding to work in a position that requires more emotional intelligence and hospitality (i.e. – makes people happy). I am great at documentation and scheduling, I’ve worked in administrative scheduling for an Air Force program in 2004 – 2006, and managed all administrative and office management functions for a very large team. Additionally, at this point in my career, I understand the importance of each job and what it means to the success of a company. I am excellent with organization, taking and producing minutes, producing any form of documentation – technical, training, etc., as well as formal presentation documents and data visualizations. I have been told that my documentation is ‘excellent’, ‘the best my eyeballs have ever seen’, and ‘uncanny’ by management in various jobs. I prefer to work on site, however, I do have a fully set up home office that I have worked remote positions from as well.
Experience
OU Health – At OU Health, I work as a Data Engineer developing data extracts for regulatory external entities who receive medical records from OU Health – such as the State of Oklahoma. I set up automations through developing stored procedures and views in SQL and setting up and scheduling SSIS packages to transfer data through working with the regulatory body to set up secure data transfers. I work with secure protocols, HIPPA, PHI. I have taken extensive training on Epic EHR systems since starting at OU Health.
CACI & ECS Technologies - Senior BI Dev/Cognos Admin- At CACI and ECS, I have administered the Cognos Application and servers, and managed a cloud implementation and upgrade of the software. I have re-designed the security model, and have documented all reporting repositories. I maintain issue tracking and change requests, keep documentation up to date, and publish release notes on the SharePoint site. I have created the following new report applications and models (each with accompanying Technical and BRD documentation) at CACI: (Please note this list is not a comprehensive listing of all of the reports that I have created, repaired, and maintained at CACI, however, they are the most complex/high profile reports that I developed.)
- Created Combined Time and Expense / Contract and Accounting Data Model in Framework Manager (FM)
- Created Complex Tax Reporting on this model
- Created Complex Contract & Rate Reporting on this model – received executive praise

Global Health BI Developer – I repaired the extremely complex EPIC Explanation of Benefits (EOB) queries. The EOB queries are a set of stored procedures, functions, views, tables and queries that are ran/refreshed/appended to each month to prepare the EOB documents for mailing to customers. Before I got to GH, the EOB’s had to be published to PDF’s then the Claims managers would manually update the out of pockets, claim totals, etc., before printing and mailing. I repaired the queries to produce accurate information that didn’t require any editing and that passed Medicare audits in May of 2018. (I received executive praise from the CEO for this effort). I recently went to a holiday party with some of my friends from GH and the data architect, Missie White, said the EOB’s are still working fine. I prepared many other reports in several different applications such as EPIC, Crystal Reports, SSRS and Tableau, and solved many information delivery options for people in various departments. I audited the EDI process and files and found some discrepancies in claims loads from a couple clients that were then repaired.
American Fidelity EDI Developer - I developed and maintained EDI applications for Customer Data loads from large customers such as Schools, Cities and Townships. I created and maintained applications to load yearly eligibility and product updates to payroll systems in customer databases. Additionally, I worked with other Carriers to get technical specifications for their data structures and loads.
Magellan Health – Senior Technical BA – Very similar to this CompSource BA position. One of my responsibilities was managing the development and production lifecycle for Reporting applications in Cognos. Including creating staging (Fact and Dimension) tables for custom packages, and developing flexible and versatile reusable reporting solutions. Each report had to have dynamic parameters and a great deal of flexibility. Some of the staging tables/packages allowed customers to create their own ad hoc reporting by having key metrics available as query items. Additionally, at Magellan Health, I wore many hats and worked on any effort where all hands were needed. Below are some reporting highlights:
VA Reporting (Magellan Federal)
InTransition and Defense Centers of Excellence programs – Mental health follow-up care for separating service members who have PTSD, Brain Injuries, or other trauma affecting mental health. This reporting package includes call center event tracking – Inbound and Outbound Calls by Reason Category, Chat table – Chat Counseling Counts, Appointment, IP Table Diagnosis Codes, and Billing. I identified a billing error in the reporting – the previous developer who created the original SQL Code was not distinctly counting number of calls per customer, as the contract stated for billing requirements, which resulted in inflation of call counts, and overbilling the customer up to $30,000 monthly.
I developed and executed staging table logic through the production process, which pulled IP tables, Avaya Call Tables, and Chat tables together. Then our team created a Framework Manager package sourcing the staging tables, to automate the reporting for this customer. The customer was extremely happy when they were able to run their own reports, and play with their own metrics in Business Insight Advanced to create their own ad hocs.
Presbyterian Health Plan (PHP)– Claims Adjudication and Diagnosis Reporting
PHP is a high profile customer of Magellan Health Systems. The lines of care that the company managed were associated with mental illness and substance abuse. The state of Arizona has a contract with PHP requiring a level of accuracy for their reporting to the state. As a result, the PHP reporting was a sanctioned contract – meaning that if our reporting was inaccurate by a single claim count or even in increments of 15 cents in claim amounts, Magellan could be fined $10,000 per instance of error, and more if the reporting had a higher measure of inaccuracy. I took over the PHP reporting while the program was still in the pilot phases. Initially, I manually ran their reporting, then I automated parts of the reporting in SQL – the reporting had to fit specific Excel templates in its final form. Finally, I was able to automate the weekly and monthly reporting in Cognos. I created multiple reports, and documented the logic. After the reporting became available in Cognos, I trained representatives at PHP began pulling their own reports. The volume of PHP claims is approximately 50,000 claims per month. The types of reporting were – Claims Adjudications to include Pended Claim Counts, Claim counts by Diagnosis group, and Authorizations by diagnosis group, and Claim totals / percentages in month over month reporting. The quarterly reporting is extremely complex, and required communicating with the Medical Director of the PHP program to identify the appropriate diagnosis code pools for grouping.
Integrated Health Home (IHH) –
I was the initial developer for the IHH project, a state funded behavioral health program located in Iowa and Pennsylvania. Initially, I created the weekly and monthly reporting in SQL, then I created staging table logic, and worked with Cognos Admin to create a Framework Manager package. Once the package was created, I developed the IHH standard reports in Cognos, trained the IHH representatives to run their reports, and helped them with learning how to create their own ad hocs in Query Studio.
HEDIS Reporting – Ambulatory Follow-up
I am very familiar with IP (Integrated Product) tables and clinical data reporting. I worked on other projects as a BA for the BI team such as – Ambulatory Follow-up HEDIS Reporting. I prepared a gap analysis that helped developers to understand what measures would need to be included to complete the Cognos package and create the reporting.
Ad Hoc Reporting – I managed a queue of ad hoc report requests that were assigned to me on a daily/weekly basis. Our turnaround time for a standard ad hoc was 1 to 5 days depending on complexity. All of our reporting was done in Oracle SQL Developer – with PL SQL. Our reports were saved in the folders as sql files for reference and reusability.
I was a strong Cognos developer on our team and frequently got requests to maintain or update production reports that other teams had worked with developers to create, when requirements changed or if there was a bug fix.
Communications/Training/Documentation/Multi Media-
Because of my documentation and multimedia design skills, I was also a Team Trainer. I created Training Courses and Procedure Documents for:
- Cognos Report Studio Training Course – I used Magellan data/Cognos Packages and created a 100+ page training course, which I executed in classroom environment in 1-hour class sessions, every day for a week. I taught the course to 5 different groups, and received a lot of praise for helping to train my peers on Cognos.
- BA Procedures for Cognos Report Studio
- BA Procedures for Creating Cognos Framework Manager Packages
- Cognos Business Insight Advanced User Guide
- Cognos Query Studio User Guide
- Connecting to a SSAS Cube in Excel and Creating a Pivot Table
Marketing Demos – I was assigned to create a pilot Customer Reporting Demo for presenting to potential customers. I created a set of aesthetically pleasing customer reports in Cognos with dynamic parameters, using dummy data sets.
I also maintained an existing demo that we used that had been created in Dreamweaver. I updated dates, and customized branding for dynamic charts – using the branding of whatever potential customer that Magellan Executive Sales Reps were meeting with.
Monthly Utilization Reports and Multimedia – I prepared and published monthly internal performance reports on multimedia screens in the form of dynamic reports that would appear on a screen rotation, with weather, cafeteria menus, and other information such as holidays and birthdays. I sourced the data for the reporting by pulling together stats and totals from team leaders. Additionally, I published the help desk monthly performance stats as well, by running queries on their SQL Server tables and putting totals into Dreamweaver charts.
