Jaye Wells

I'm a recent graduate with a Bachelor's Geology with a minor in GIS looking to use my knowledge in GIS. I'm active outdoors doing a lot of hiking and climbing on the weekends. Quality in detail is important to me with any work I publish and I'm always looking to learn more through my job.

I worked a part-time position throughout college where I was a shift leader and I gain skills in leading and how to take different approaches to different employees. During college, I did a summer internship at the Indiana Department of Transportation in the Geotechnical Services department developing and updating an ArcGIS Online dataset for landslides throughout the state while doing field and lab work working alongside the staff geologist and senior engineer. This last summer (2022) I had a field course in Cardwell, Montana where we spent 6 weeks doing field mapping throughout the area. I was able to develop better spatial awareness and more confidence in my mapping and rock identification skills. Throughout college, I made all my extra classes design, physics, and GIS-based by taking design techniques about AutoCAD, a geophysics course, and an advanced GIS course where we learned how to incorporate Python into running GIS data. Since college, I am currently in a position with Americorps and Montana Conservation Corps under the Big Sky Watershed program. I am here to gain knowledge on environmental conservation and to relay that to the public in different ways. Since being here, I coded and put together an AR Sandbox for the conservation district to use for educational purposes on watersheds and topography. I have also taken coal-seam fire data from HTML and used python to turn it into usable points that I populated into GIS to create a map. I had the map published in the conservation district's newsletter and it was also sent to the Custer County Fire Chief to use in his efforts to map and mitigate fires throughout the surrounding counties.

Most recently, I graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor of Science in Geology with a GIS minor in December 2022. I have also taken an online course from Coursera through UC Davis in Geospatial and Environmental Analysis in February 2023.
