James Stackhouse

My name is James Leonard Stackhouse IV and I am a born and raised native to Myrtle Beach, SC. I have over a decade of experience in various roles as an HR specialist, and HR commissioned Officer with the South Carolina Army National Guard. I have am a 2-year certified with the Society of Human Resource Management organization as a true HR professional. I have an array of other valuable certifications through the U.S. Army such as the DoD Sexual Assault Advocate certification. I enjoy helping others in need and bring positive energy to the workforce. 

CPT James Leonard Stackhouse IV serves as the Battalion S-1 Officer in Charge at the 1-118th Infantry Battalion, Mt. Pleasant, SC. Captain Stackhouse serves on the Battalion staff as an administrative officer in support of seven companies and is the direct leader responsible of ten Human Resource professionals within the Higher Headquarters Company (HHC). 

CPT Stackhouse entered the South Carolina Army National Guard as an enlisted soldier, graduating from Basic Combat Training (BCT) at Ft. Jackson, SC September 2015. Captain Stackhouse then completed Human Resource Advanced Individual Training (AIT) December 2016. Captain Stackhouse started his first duty assignment as an enlisted Human Resource Specialist with the Higher Headquarters Company (HHC) 1-151st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion (Aviation) for 24 months. Captain Stackhouse earned an Army Reserve Officer Training Corps scholarship from the Citadel military college to attend Charleston Southern University. While in Army ROTC CPT Stackhouse served in the Simultaneous Membership Program as a contracted cadet with Alpha Company 1-151st ARB & ROTC Palmetto Battalion for 26 months. 

Upon completion of the SMP CPT Stackhouse earned his commission from the Citadel Army Department as an Adjutant General Second Lieutenant into the SC Army National Guard. CPT Stackhouse follow on duty assignment was with the HHC 218th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade as a Brigade Strength Manager for 48 months. In this role CPT Stackhouse participated in multiple warfighter exercises, military decision-making process training, acting convoy commander for unit-based movements of $500,000 worth of military vehicles. CPT Stackhouse was the officer in charge of the COVID site operations in which he led 100 soldiers to administer 22,000 COVID vaccinations during the 2020 pandemic. CPT Stackhouse completed the Sexual Harassment Assault Response Prevention course in Washington, DC, earning a certified credential through the Department of Defense. CPT Stackhouse graduated from the Adjutant General Basic Officer Leadership Course, where he served as the class leading officer of 30 Second Lieutenants.   

In successfully completing his service with the 218th MEB, CPT Stackhouse was promoted to the rank Captain dated January 11th, 2024. CPT Stackhouse was given more responsibility as a leader by being tasked as the 1-118th Infantry Battalion S-1 Officer in Charge. In this role CPT Stackhouse participated in a combat deployment attached to the 218th MEB to Djibouti, Africa as the Combined Joint Task Force Horn of Africa Administrative Officer in Charge, Manpower and Personnel Directorate from July 2023 to April 2024 in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM-HORN OF AFRICA. CPT Stackhouse improved existing systems and implemented new best practices for 300 joint evaluations, and a 433-person rating scheme chain. CPT Stackhouse and his 4-person awards team processed 465 joint evaluations and facilitated 28 awards ceremonies under a 2-star level combatant command. In conjunction to with being the CJ-1 OIC CPT Stackhouse was an active Victims Advocate for the entire Combined Joint Task Force, in which he worked to foster a climate of awareness to prevent workplace harassment, and sexual assault misconduct. CPT Stackhouse volunteered with the Friends of Africa group in contributing to humanitarian efforts to support stability in Djibouti, Africa. CPT Stackhouse also supported women peace and security (WPS) to help build a fair and equal workplace. CPT Stackhouse completed the Joint Planning Process (JPP) training on Kelly Barracks in Stuttgart Germany.

I graduated from Charleston Southern University in May 2019 with a bachelor’s in business administration. I later received a Master of Science in Human Resource Management from Charleston Southern University in May 2023. I am currently enrolled in an MBA program at Louisiana State University Shreveport as a fulltime online student. I currently hold a certification with the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) organization, and a level 1 certification of Sexual harassment and assault response prevention (SHARP) from the Department of Defense.
