5/24 – Present Powell Industries, Houston, TX Lead Automation Engineer

Used Copa-Data Zenon software to create the HMI for a powerhouse. Project interfaced with various GE protective relays over 61850, and various other devices over Modbus.

 

1/24 – 5/24 Expanse Engineering, Houston, TX Senior Electrical Engineer

Responsible for the communications between electrical substation protective relays. Received training on SEL RTAC PLC. Systems used 61850, Modbus, and the SEL protocols. Configured the HMI on the RTAC. Worked on substation electrical drawings.

 

8/23 – 1/24 Braeden Engineering, Houston, TX Senior Electrical / Controls Engineer

Contracted to the Pressure Control Group at NOV to assist with subsea BOP control panel design. Work included writing FAT acceptance documents, reviewing control panel assemblies, and completing as built drawings and updating BOM's for a subsea BOP stack.

Received training in products from the Canrig line of equipment in preparation for controls upgrades.

Supervised Electrical Maintenance Department of a $120 million dollar forge operation. Scheduled time, assigned work orders, checked quality of work, assisted in troubleshooting difficult problems, purchased all electrical components needed. Designed new products to add to the companies’ portfolio of over 100 products. Designed a new high flow UV 

Light air filtration unit, designed a dual fuel gas train to add a direct fired burner to an air heating system, designed a new energy conservation wheel product, designed a new dehumidification product. Supervised and approved work from a range of technician level through engineering level people. Also troubleshot any existing unit issues and recommended engineering solutions. Used SolidWorks and Autocad Electrical to design new products.

Troubleshoot machines that are down to maintain production capability. Upgrade outdated control systems on machines.

Used Siemens Portal to program S7/1200 and Basic Panels for machine upgrades. Modified Allen-Bradley Controllogix, SLC, and Micrologix programs to improve existing machines. Used Factory Talk View to modify existing HMI’s. Used Factory Talk Transaction Manager for data collection. Designed and Installed 12 Fanuc robot cells to handle coils and parts in different areas of the plant. Robot cells used Omron PLC’s and HMI’s.

PLC and HMI Programming using Allen-Bradley Controllogix PLCs and Factory Talk View SE. Designed and Reviewed Drawings, Programmed PLCs and HMIs for Turbine Inlet Chilling Systems. Systems utilized redundant Ethernet ring architecture, redundant PLCs, and Modbus communications to third party devices. Had 3 major projects for LNG downstream facilities. This work included the front end engineering design (FEED) and programming.

Installed several Syrup Room control system upgrades. Also worked with chiller control design and refrigeration system controls. Projects used Allen-Bradley PLC components and drives. Intellution IFIX was used for the HMI.

Supervised 9 electrical maintenance employees. Work included small projects to eliminate repetitive down time causes.  Converted panelview applications to Wonderware. Installed a Wonderware quad screen system.

Designed and implemented changes to a complex multi-PLC network to add CIP tracking and reporting capabilities to a major soft drink supplier’s plant. Installed various plant improvements involving Allen-Bradley Panelviews and PLC’s, AC drives, and MCC’s.

Provided hardware engineering support for a major international power plant machinery supplier. Designed control systems using Siemens hardware.

Installed 6 complete fiber optic cable lines. These systems used Allen-Bradley PLCs and a Wonderware or RSView operator interface. Equipment included fiber payoffs, extruders, and winders.

 

1/99 –10/99       Summit Automation, Inc. Gainesville, GA   Senior Project Engineer/Contract

Provided start-up services for a meltblown production line. Successfully started up line and customized system at plants request. Minimal control system was improved by adding automatic start-up sequence, quality reports, security, audible alarms, and enhanced recipe functionality. System included Allen-Bradley PLCs, Flex I/O, RSView, and Controlnet. Allen-Bradley 160 series, 1336 Plus, and Force Drives were used.

 

5/98 –12/98       J & M Laboratories      Dawsonville, GA Electrical Engineer

Completely specify, document, and implement a control system for a new product line from the ground up. Defined the control system using P & I drawings, interlock lists, and start-up/shutdown sequence definitions. Programmed an Allen-Bradley PLC5 with RSView as the operator interface.

 

5/97 – 5/98        Lashley, Cohen and Associates  Lawrenceville, GA  Project Engineer

Successfully executed more than 50 service calls where troubleshooting skills were challenged.

Also executed many small projects using Allen-Bradley Micrologix, SLC500, and PLC5 series controllers, Allen-Bradley Panelviews, and 1336 AC Drives. 

 

3/96 – 5/97        MDCS, Inc./TAVA Technologies Atlanta, GA  Senior Project Engineer

Implemented control systems using the Allen-Bradley SLC series, PLC5 series, 1391 servo amplifiers, IMC S-Class servo controller, IMC 121 Servo  controller, 1395 DC Drives, 1333 AC Drives, 1305 AC Drives. Wonderware, Winview, and Visual Basic were used for computer based MMI solutions.   

7/95 – 3/96        Hampton-Tilley Associates      Norcross, GA  Project Engineer

Responsible for control system design and implementation using a variety of hardware and software including Allen-Bradley SLC500, PLC5 ,and TI405/505 PLCs and Allen-Bradley 1305 and 1336 AC Drives.

Planned, coordinated and directed all aspects of capital projects.  Projects included installing new production lines and additions to existing lines. Project work included specifying/purchasing materials, power distribution, panel layouts, PLC programming, startup and operator training.

 

11/92 – 8/94      Lockwood Greene Engineers, Inc. Atlanta, GA  Senior Systems Designer

Specified and documented instrumentation for process control. Developed software tools using Dbase IV to automate the creation of loop sheets and instrument specs.  Train, execute project, and work start-up for a Fisher Provox DCS system. I was part of a team of 8 engineers that configured, programmed, tested, and installed the system for a 2000 I/O point spandex plant. 

 

4/92 – 11/92      W.D. Walker and Associates Athens, GA Project Engineer

Designed and implemented control systems using Allen-Bradley PLC hardware.    Significant project was the control system for an entire chemical plant which included 3 batch reactors and approximately 800 I/O points.

 

12/90 – 4/92      PC Design/Hampton-Tilley Associates Forest Park, GA  Project Engineer

Installed a Taylor Mod300 DCS system in a chemical plant. I was the primary programmer for a system that had 2 batch reactors and a continuous reactor. I executed the entire project from programming through start-up, customer training and the first few months of production. This plant made different kinds of surfactants.

 

6/89 – 12/90      Combustion Engineering/ABB Process Automation, Inc. Norcross, GA  Design Engineer

Programmed and installed the Taylor Mod300 DCS in pulp mills.I was one member of a team of 10 engineers that configured, programmed, and started up the DCS. I was a programmer for this company and worked about 4 pulp mill start-ups with this system during my time there. I became proficient enough to be sent on service calls to our customers near the end of my stay. I was also trained on the ABB master DCS system.
