About Haoyang Lu:
I caught fire coding.
Through my undergraduate study at NYU, I have familiarized myself with finance, accounting, economic analysis, statistics, and Python. My diverse internships endowed me with solid research and analytical skills. As a former summer intern analyst at Acceleration Capital Group, I performed equity research on Schlumberger, Delta Airlines, and Crowdstrike. I also did the business analysis on specific stocks for long/ short investment strategy based on fund managers’ presentations on their stock pitch strategy. As a former financial analyst in Small Biz Silver Lining, I built the company’s latest data analysis model to better analyze risks for the company’s petty loans to forecast expected returns and potential default rates of the loans. I’m skilled at using linear regression, logistic regression, tree models, k-means clustering, Manifold learning, and neural network analysis to build machine learning models to analyze data.
I’m actively searching for opportunities in financial analysis, investment banking, equity research, and global capital markets roles. I’m also a self-motivated, innovative, and energetic person with an excessive leadership experience throughout college life. As a responsible leader, I organized fundraising activities to help NYU Langone Hospital to fight COVID during the pandemic, I also won the NYU Intramural soccer championships as team captain. As a quick learner, I enjoy working in a fast-paced team with challenging missions. I also have outstanding academic records as an NYU alumnus and a Columbia student who has plenty of hands-on internship experience.
My graduate school experience at Columbia University greatly enhanced my skills in python, machine learning, R-studio, time series, and data analysis. These hard skills would enable me to perform even better as a financial analyst.
Experience
During my time as a Financial Analyst at KPMG, I utilized time series models and machine learning algorithms to analyze and forecast datasets, resulting in a 15% improvement in accuracy compared to previous methods. I also played a key role in consulting with the MTA on developing their app by providing ridership volume predictions, enabling the client to make data-driven decisions. Additionally, at Small Biz Silver Lining, I developed a data analysis model that accurately assessed risks associated with petty loans, leading to a 10% reduction in default rate and increased expected returns.
In my previous role as an Asset Management Analyst at Foresight Fund, I automated the financial analysis process for healthcare companies using Microsoft Visual Basics, reducing analysis time by 30%. I also designed and implemented an optimization investment portfolio simulation model, resulting in a 12% increase in potential return while minimizing risk. Furthermore, my proficiency in Excel allowed me to predict pricing issues for targeted firms in the beverage industry, preventing potential losses.
Throughout my experiences, I have demonstrated my ability to collaborate effectively with teams and present complex information in a clear and concise manner. As Captain of the NYU International Student Soccer Club, I led a diverse team to championships while fostering a supportive and inclusive environment. Additionally, as a Fundraising Team Leader at NYU Langone Hospital, I successfully managed funds exceeding $100,000 to support COVID-19 relief efforts, showcasing my organizational and leadership skills.
With a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from New York University and ongoing studies in Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences at Columbia University, I have honed my analytical and problem-solving abilities. My proficiency in Python, R, and SQL, combined with my strong PowerPoint skills, enables me to create compelling client-facing presentations and deliver exceptional results.
I am excited about the opportunity to join Nomura, a company that values integrity, excellence, and a strong team ethic. The Financial Analyst position aligns perfectly with my career goals and allows me to leverage my skills and passion for financial analysis. My strong attention to detail, excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment will make me a valuable asset to the team.
