Hannah Jean Gibson

I currently live in Spokane, but have done work with Japanese exchange students and groups through Mukogawa exchange programs. I lived with my students to assist them in learning English but also with American culture in general. I have visited a few of my students in Japan a few times as well. I learned some Japanese with some help of my exchange group but I would love to broaden my understanding of both the langurs and culture. I currently work with patient services in one of the larger hospitals in my area so I interact with many people of different backgrounds, cultures, and languages, and I still assist in the exchange program when I am able to. 

I have worked as a resident assistant with Mukogawa Fort Wright Institute, where I help assist my exchange group with American life and culture but also language, this included setting up mini language lessons or help with English homework that was assigned. I currently work in a large hospital in my area which sees patients from different backgrounds, cultures, and languages so I am familiar with getting creative to help assist with their hospital visit or explain certain things that they are confused over. 

I have my Bachelors of Science in Biology at Whitworth University, while getting my degree my fellow peers and I often needed to present our findings to others with varying levels of scientific understanding so we had to tailor our work to best educate others on our findings and research. During undergrad we were often encouraged to step out of our comfort zone, which led me to take classes on Asian American literature and to take classes about education and teaching given language barriers or to learn how best to interact with varying educational experience.
