About Gabriella Nakamaru:
I am a dedicated and detail-oriented professional with a strong academic background in psychology and biology, complemented by extensive research experience in cultural identity, social cognition, and minoritized identities. I have actively contributed to multiple research projects at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, assisting in qualitative and quantitative studies, data management, and community outreach.
Beyond academia, I have been working as a property manager and assistant since graduating, honing my organizational, problem-solving, and administrative skills. This role has given me hands-on experience in managing operations, coordinating logistics, and ensuring seamless property oversight while balancing my commitment to psychological research and crisis response which has thoroughly aided in my communication skills.
Experience
As a research assistant, I have conducted qualitative coding, data management, and literature reviews, as well as presented findings at academic conferences.
Beyond research, I have been working as a property manager and assistant since graduation, developing strong organizational and administrative skills in overseeing property operations. Additionally, my role as a crisis responder for THRIVE Lifeline has given me extensive experience in mental health support, working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
With expertise in data analysis, crisis response, and property management, I bring a versatile skill set that combines analytical thinking, problem-solving, and interpersonal communication.
Education
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, where I conducted extensive research on cultural identity, social perception, and minoritized communities. I began my undergraduate studies in Biology at the University of San Diego before transferring to UH Mānoa to further pursue my passion for psychology and research. I earned my high school diploma from Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy.
Throughout my academic journey, I have received multiple awards and distinctions, including the Undergraduate Award for Research Excellence from the Department of Psychology at UH Mānoa, recognizing my contributions to qualitative research. I was also a Dean’s List recipient at both UH Mānoa and Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy for maintaining a strong academic record. Additionally, I was awarded the Holi Bergin Scholarship for my leadership and commitment to community service.
Beyond academics, I have been actively involved in research, leadership, and service, serving as the Secretary of Psi Chi National Honors Society and managing research projects as a SONA Manager-Apprentice. My research contributions have been showcased in multiple poster presentations, demonstrating my ability to engage in high-level academic inquiry.
