Tutor and CEOTutor and CEO

Harrow Tutoring Jul 2009 - Dec 2021 · 12 yrs Jul 2009 - Dec 2021

Almost a decade of teaching students from elementary school to college helped hone skills like managing large numbers of people (making sure they properly organize their time and their workloads), communicating complex information in as simplistic terms as possible, and working with diverse teams of people at all levels within an organization. Started tutoring as a solution to the deficit in teaching jobs due to the “Great Recession.” Found and built a roster of regular clients whose children needed assistance in multiple academic areas. Worked one-on-one with individuals ranging from elementary to high school students, discovered each student's deficit with individualized testing and filled in the gaps. Communicated consistently with students’ guardians, apprising them of all aspects of their child’s progress, and coaching them on how to best assist their children to succeed. Ran all aspects of this business; advertising to find clients, negotiating payment rates, doing the actual tutoring, and dealing with all fiscal matters (including payment issues). Really ran from 2009-2012 and then 2017-2021.Almost a decade of teaching students from elementary school to college helped hone skills like managing large numbers of people (making sure they properly organize their time and their workloads), communicating complex information in as simplistic terms as possible, and working with diverse teams of people at all levels within an organization. 5th Grade Teacher5th Grade Teacher

Broward Community Charter School- EastBroward Community Charter School- East · Dec 2008 - Jun 2009

Learning new skills while on the job made organizing and managing this class possible. It took a great deal of resourcefulness, inventiveness, and ingenuity to make this classroom work. Oversaw the success of this very diverse class, with multiple learning and discipline issues (all 26 students passed the FCAT allowing them to move on to middle school). Worked cooperatively with colleagues across the organization to plan joint events and curriculum that could be taught across subject areas and grade-levels. Organized and managed games at recess so the students played actual sports. They had previously just run around in circles or sat in the shade (there was no P.E. for elementary students).Learning new skills while on the job made organizing and managing this class possible. Altered students’ view of history so it could be communicated and understood as simple to learn narratives. Managed all classes with consistency and organization, making expectations both clear and achievable. Assisted students, faculty, and staff with all computer applications including training ten other teachers to use the newly purchased grade book and school management program called "Grade Quick." Generated, implemented, and assessed developmentally appropriate curriculum and instruction for each individual student (following state defined standards).
