Evan Alter

I am a second year student at Rutgers Law School in Newark, New Jersey seeking a legal internship. 

 During the summer of 2023, I had a dual internship with the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and with the Honorable Judge Annette Scoca in the Civil Division. As a judicial intern I was tasked with researching and writing memos for upcoming trials. I honed in on my writing skills and excelled in my internship role. Throughout my time in the Prosecutor’s Office, I was tasked with writing opposition briefs for post conviction relief forms. My goal was to find weak points in the defense attorney’s argument and explain why post-conviction relief should not be granted. During both internships, I applied the research and writing skills I learned as a first year law student. 

My ability to manage and coordinate under pressure has helped me flourish in law school. During the summer of 2020 I interned at the Simon Wiesenthal Center where I worked closely with Ruben Díaz jr. at The Office of The Bronx Borough President. I worked with the Bronx Opioid Treatment Centers and coordinated the distribution of mattresses and naloxone for treatment centers throughout the Bronx. The experience was eye-opening, I was in a position where people depended on my skill set outside of a school setting. 

As a second-semester senior at Muhlenberg College, I was fortunate to work twice a week at the office of New Jersey Assemblyman John F. McKeon. I collaborated with assemblyman McKeon and emailed constituents a thank you letter for supporting the Asian American Pacific Islander bill. I acted as the primary point of contact for the concerns and questions of constituents, in district twenty-seven, over new legislation. I collaborated with Springfield Mayor Alex Keiser and helped draft thank you letters to retiring board of education members and township committee members in district twenty-seven. I gained valuable research, writing, and collaboration skills throughout my internship.

I graduated Magna cum laude with senior thesis honors from Muhlenberg College and I'm currently enrolled in Rutgers Law School/
