Education / Training
About Emma Spiegel:
My Educational Philosophy:
My mission as an educator is to be an advocate for progress, support, and discovery. I believe learning is a life-long journey; in this way I seek to accompany individuals in the path of learning that is best suited to them through my combined creativity, patience, passion and understanding. In any and all environments that I enter, I am a fresh and outstanding energy, a change-maker and an engaged member of the community. I take great pride and joy in teaching and enjoy sharing this love with all.
I recognize and applaud the need for a collaborative network, one which identifies the needs of the student and addresses them through support, encouragement and communication. I know how critical it is that the networks of home and school are consistently bridged, providing an even path for all individuals to connect. It is important for me that the school environment in which I work values this collaboration.
I believe that the education offered to our children should encourage them to expand in their ability to access the world. Language is key for this: in communicating in different languages, a child expands his/her frame of reference Moreover, through second and third-language acquisition, students can expand their frames of reference and embrace a rapidly-changing international climate with confidence and ingenuity. I hope to facilitate this exchange, and bring my passion to build possibilities across culture.
Finally, I am an active teacher and believe that learning truly happens by doing. Therefore, action is a keystone to my practice and in the classroom it exists wholly. Throughout all of the teaching positions I have held, learning is hands-on.
I am seeking a role where I can establish my presence in the community and make a real difference in the lives of each person whom I encounter.
Experience
I have over ten years of teaching experience, both publicly and privately;
Things I’m passionate about related to education:
-Communication (speaking, really) across cultures
-Creating opportunities
-Accessibility
-Mentorship
-Teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL)
-Multiculturalism
-Teaching French
-Providing equal opportunity to all
-Diversity (culture, age, ability, opinion, methodology)
-Human rights, equality, safety, peace, perseverance
Fortunately, I have been able to work across different fields in education: I have served as a coordinator and director’s assistant, a small business owner and a teacher, a personal caretaker and nanny, in private schools and specialised programs, as well as in the home.
