About Diego Montesinos:
I was born and raised in Oakland, CA, and I have a twin sister and a younger brother. My family is
from Peru.
I was raised by a single a mom who was the first to attend college in our family, and the
accomplishments she’s had in her career are a continual inspiration for me. I am motivated to
continue the work that must be done for marginalized communities and the environment, and I
believe that financial literacy is a key component of this work.
Outside of school, I do club triathlon for my school, and I go birdwatching almost any time I can
get. I'm a diligent worker, and I approach everything I do with an enthusiastic, passionate mentality—whether it be handling customer service for my jobs as a museum visitor services assistant or doing research for my University.
Experience
I have had multiple internships with a renewable energy company, a bank, and a consulting firm. I have also conducted research for the Latinx Research Center at my University. Lastly, I have done multiple customer service jobs, one as a visitor services assistant for the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA) and another as a Lifeguard for the East Bay Regional Parks District (EBRPD). During my time at my internships, I learned to successfully communicate with a team in an office setting, present assigned projects and documents to the company, and quickly complete clerical tasks. In my final project at Intersect Power, I spoke with my internship team and supervisors at a town hall meeting in order to successfully advocate for the approval of a solar grid that would offset over 180,000 tons of CO2 and create 400 living-wage union jobs. My position as a Lifeguard for the East Bay Regional Parks District (EBRPD) taught me to utilize my technical knowledge in swimming and water rescue prevention to communicate with over 1,000 customers almost daily. Because of this, my role as a lifeguard taught me how to interact with a diverse and large group of customers in an effective and kind manner.
Education
I am currently a rising Junior at the University of California, Berkeley. My major is Data Science and I am pursuing a minor in Economics.
