Derrick Cullen

My name is Derrick. I am 32 years old and have been working in the telecommunications side of the IBEW Local 164 since July 5th, 2016. I went to East Stroudsburg university after graduating from Dumont High School where I studied Sociology and played Division II collegiate Rugby. I realized my true passion was working with my hands after working a number of different jobs. I have a fiber certification, firestop certification and am OSHA certified. I have done everything from data to security on jobs and am looking to further my Telecommunications knowledge and challenge myself in the next stage of my career.

I have worked all over the state of New Jersey installing fiber optics, data, voice and security at various jobsites. I have worked with a team and the customer to ensure all aspects of the job are up to their standards. Being in the union since 2016 I have been responsible for repairing, upgrading and installing what each job entails. I have worked under many different leaders to complete jobs as well as leading my own team.

Graduated college from East Stroudsburg University while also completing my four year apprenticeship program through the union. Classes through the apprenticeship involved learning about the code and standards of cable management, security classes, fiber certification, OSHA 30, CPR certification, basic coding and a foreman class.
