Danny Powell

I am an Environmental Scientist, Geologist and GIS specialist. I have had the privilege of honing my skills here in Hawai’i while working for institutions like the Hawai’i institute of Marine Biology (HIMB), The Hawai’i Groundwater and Geothermal Resource Center (HGGRC) and currently at the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) as a Mineral Resource Specialist. Throughout my career, geospatial data analysis has been essential in both managing data as well as communicating difficult scientific principles to community members and stakeholders. I am proud to say that the work I have done has contributed to helping preserve our natural resources. 

My love for the environment is a major driving force not just in my career, but my personal life as well. When I am not working you can find me in the ocean surfing the waves or deep in the forest appreciating nature.

• Land Water Air - 'Āina Wai Ea LLC - Excavation Monitor

  • Monitored the excavation of trenches used for water piping for a job site managed by Hewitt. Duties included documenting strata and soil types collected and cataloging data for summary reports.
• Hawai’i Groundwater and Geothermal Resource Center- Research Assistant

  • Duties included the collection and preparation of groundwater samples, cataloging data and then preparing the information into a geospatial database to show an analysis of groundwater in Hawai’i.
• Hawai’i Institute of Marine Biology- Research Assistant
  • April 2016–September 2016
  • Responsibilities included collecting and preparing samples, cataloging data and maintenance of experiment. GPS coordinates of samples locations were logged into a geodatabase for geospatial analysis.
