As a Human Resource Consultant 2 (HRC2), I was part of an elite team of HR professionals that supports staff administrations within the Office of the Secretary (OOS) in Western Washington from Bellingham to Vancouver. As an HRC2, I specialize and am responsible for providing professional human resource services and consultation to appointing authorities, managers, supervisors, and employees on a wide variety of sensitive, complex, and critical HR issues. My specialties in this position are to assist in providing information on the ADA, FMLA, and PFML processes to our employees and process the necessary forms for leave as required. 

Human Resource Consultant 1

As a Human Resource Consultant 1 (HRC1), I was part of a collaborative team of HR professionals that supports staff administrations within the Office of the Secretary (OOS) in Western Washington from Spokane to Wenatchee. Under the general guidance of my HR manager and as an HR generalist, I was responsible for providing a full range of human resource services and consultation to our appointing authorities, managers, supervisors, and employees. I assessed the customer’s needs, identify and evaluate options, and recommended courses of action for employees; provide consultation and technical services involved with on-boarding and training, maintaining, and off-boarding staff; and possess the ability to input personnel/payroll data into the Human Resources Management System (HRMS). With this position, I consulted with new and current employees on benefit options, providers within their area/counties, options for retirement, and others related to benefits.

Office Assistant 3

Paid Family Medical Leave Division, Washington Employment Security Department, Lacey WA 

February 2020 - July 2021; 40 hours/week, full-time with some overtime

This position, as an Office Assistant 3 (OA3) with the Employment Security Department (ESD), I provided excellent customer support to the care team for the state of Washington Paid Leave program. Under the guidance of our care team support supervisor, I was responsible preparing, reviewing, and maintaining desk aids for our team as well as the care teams; processed sensitive files and information to be stored within employee files; process power of attorneys and file claimant requests; assist customers by answering questions and assisting in filing leave claims; managed mailings accordingly. Once moved from the care team to the compliance unit, I was then responsible for assisting in the appeals process and work with the Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH). 

Human Resource Consultant Intern

Office of the Secretary, Department of Health, Tumwater WA 

August 2019 – January 2020

As an Intern with the Department of Health (DOH), I had the greatest opportunity to get an inside, in depth experience as to how Human Resources operates within the state agencies. Under the guidance of my supervisor, I had completed a classification position description sampling data analysis to reclassify job titles within the agency, work directly under HR associates from different departments to get an understanding of what each position in the unit operates – such as generalists, labor relations, talent acquisition and workforce development, recruitment, and the equity, diversity, and inclusion team to name a few. I was given the opportunity to learn about the HRMS and HRIS systems, create job postings within NEOGov, networked and attended job fairs with the recruitment team, attended and gave input into meetings pertaining to labor relations and reclassification. I attended and completed the Outer Mindset courses, became knowledgeable about WFSE, WAC, and RCWs, and was able to take my academic theory of Human Resources from my Master’s program and apply it to the practical application of HR practices within the DOH.
