Clifford Uwuoruya

Osabuohien Clifford Uwuoruya received his PhD in Sociology from Nelson Mandela University. He has worked as the strategic resource mobiliser at the Engagement Office within the Engagement and Transformation Portfolio of the University. Clifford also provides scholarly and programmatic assistance across various projects within the Engagement Office's Hubs of Convergence, particularly in Hub 5 (Knowledge Communication and Application). Clifford has previously worked as a lecturer in the Sociology Department. His research interests intersect across African sociological theories with a focus on understanding social change, endogeneity, vernacularity, and the postcolonial experience; Indigenous Knowledge Systems with a focus on Yoruba Ifa ontologies and epistemes; and African intellectuals' studies with a particular focus on Fela Anikulapo Kuti theorisation as an intellectual.

Clifford is deeply engaged in community engagement scholarship and practice, contributing to collaborative projects across South Africa, Brazil, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

• Conduct thorough research into various funding opportunities available for the projects embarked on by the Engagement and the Hubs o Convergence.
• Partnering with Internal and external stakeholder-communities to draft comprehensive and scientific funding proposals.
• Mobilizing national and international institutions/organizations to partner with on relevant projects or funding opportunities.
• Providing scholarly and intellectual support to Hub 5 (Knowledge and Sharing Hub).
• Assisting with relevant programmatic and scholarly work across the Engagement Office and the Hubs of Convergence.

• Recruiting participants from a sample of staff and students at the Nelson Mandela University, for a research study.

• Delivered engaging lectures and facilitated interactive learning sessions for undergraduate modules, fostering critical thinking and academic growth among students. Modules taught include:
• SSS103 & SSV102 (Groups and Organisations): Explored theories and practices of group dynamics, organisational behaviour, and the sociology of organisations.
• SSS201 (Environmental Sociology): Addressed the intersection of society and the environment, focusing on sustainability, environmental justice, and socio-environmental challenges.
• SAA104 (Social Structure and Social Change): Examined societal structures, processes of change, and their implications for communities and institutions.
• SSS303 (Sociology of Development): Analysed development theories, global inequalities, and the role of sociological frameworks in addressing developmental challenges.
• Conducted comprehensive assessments, including designing assignments, tests, and examinations, ensuring alignment with learning outcomes and academic standards.
• Provided academic support and mentorship to students, promoting their intellectual and professional development.
• Managed administrative tasks related to course coordination, including maintaining accurate records, moderating assessments, and liaising with departmental staff to ensure seamless module delivery.
