About chioma nwokoro:

Chioma Nwokoro is a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She received her undergraduate degree in Nursing from the University of Texas Arlington and earned her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Alabama Birmingham.  Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, Chioma has fifteen years of extensive experience and expertise in medical-surgical, Intermediate Medical (IMU), Neurology, and Psychiatric nursing working with the underserved, underprivileged, and vulnerable populations.

 Her love and passion for psychiatry led her to pursue her master's in Psychiatric Nursing. She is trained to treat an array of mental health issues in patients aged 12 and older, with an emphasis on mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, and ADHD. Chioma believes in a holistic approach towards treatment and offers evidence-based Pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments that are individualized to patients’ specific needs. She has special interest in providing high quality mental health care, promoting mental health/outcomes, and abating the stigma associated with mental health.

 

Experience

MediTelecare (Psychiatric Mental Health Practitioner 02/2023 to present)

• Practice in accordance with Texas State and Licensing Board laws, rules, and regulations. 

• Deliver high quality personalized psychiatric evaluation and diagnosis to patients aged 6 to 99. 

• Perform and prescribe appropriate behavioral and medication intervention to a variety of psychiatric diagnoses. 

• Perform and interpret appropriate cognitive or psychological testing and screens to aid in diagnosis.

• Order, collect, and evaluate laboratory or imaging findings as appropriate, and provide referrals for further treatment when appropriate. 

• Refer to or coordinate with other care team members, such as therapists, supervising MD, PCP, and other specialists for continuity and coordination of care. 

• Provide education and therapeutic support for patients and their caregivers and provide brief therapeutic intervention within appointment time constraints.
