About Charlton Jimerson:
Charlton Maxwell Jimerson is a retired Major League Baseball player from San Leandro, California. Jimerson survived a turbulent childhood, saved in part by discovering his love of baseball at an early age. He was drafted out of high school in the twenty-fourth round of the 1997 Major League Baseball Amateur draft by the Houston Astros, but he chose to put his education first and attended the University of Miami, Florida. As a Miami Hurricane, Jimerson won two NCAA Collegiate Baseball National Championships and was named the 2001 College World Series Most Outstanding Player. Dedicated to being a student-athlete, Jimerson completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. Still very much on the Houston Astros radar, Jimerson was drafted a second time by the club in the fifth round of the 2001 Major League Baseball Amateur draft.
After college, Jimerson went on to play Minor League Baseball for the Houston Astros. As a prospect, Baseball America reported him as having the “Best Outfield Arm,” as well as being the “Best Athlete” in the Houston Astros farm system in 2005. Later that year, Jimerson made his Major League debut with the Houston Astros on September 14, 2005. Oddly, Jimerson had to wait until 2006 to get his first at-bat in the Major Leagues. That’s when Jimerson pinch-hit for future hall-of-fame pitcher Roger Clemens, belting a home run his first at-bat.
