Knoxville, KnoxAbout Cecilia Wright:
Board-Certified Music Therapist, Private Music Instructor, and Professional Touring and Studio Musician.
Experience
As a music therapist, my clinical training is varied and includes experience in acute medical settings, community settings, behavioral health, and assisted living. I completed a six month, full-time internship with UK Healthcare, where I gained experience in a variety of areas including neurorehabilitation, NICU, NACU (Neonatal Abstinence Care Unit), pediatrics, cancer, and hospice. After earning the MT-BC credential, I provided contracted music therapy services in the Fayette County Public Schools for two years, addressing educational goals for students with disabilities. In Lexington, I co-founded Wildwood Music Therapy, LLC, a private practice that offers music therapy services and adaptive music instruction.
My professional experience as a performing musician is varied and includes national touring experience, studio work, arranging, and producing. I perform regularly with several regional bands on cello, bass, and vocals. While I have experience in a variety of styles, including classical and jazz, I am particularly passionate about performing with artists who explore and celebrate diverse Appalachian experiences while expanding on traditional folk traditions.
As a music educator, I have worked in multiple non-profit music programs that provide music lessons to students from families with financial need. I have also taught both children and adults independently for the past twelve years. Recently, I have expanded my private music instruction to include bass guitar, songwriting, and adaptive music instruction for clients with disabilities. Overall, my mission as a music therapist, educator, and musician is to make meaningful and authentic musical experiences more accessible and equitable.
Education
I completed a master's degree in Music Therapy at the University of Kentucky, where I also completed the Music Therapy Equivalency program and earned the Music Therapist-Board Certified (MT-BC) credential through my education and clinical training. At UK, I also completed the Orff Level 1 training and became a certified NICU music therapist.
I completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music at the University of Tennessee, where I received an orchestra scholarship and studied both classical music and jazz.
