Carlos Omar Maidana

Dr. Maidana is a physicist and research engineer with over 22 years of international experience in research, design and development. His experience spans cross disciplinary projects covering the whole design and development cycle: concept studies, design, modeling, simulation, fabrication, testing and optimization using different theoretical, computational and experimental techniques as well as managing working groups and test facilities.

Dr. Maidana can integrate, develop and coordinate different types of knowledge and techniques that the modern cross-disciplinary projects requires. In this way, creative and proactive thinking beyond the standard discipline structures are between the characteristics that he has being developing over the years.

Dr. Carlos O. Maidana, owns and manages a consulting, engineering design and scientific research firm, MAIDANA RESEARCH. Until recently, he was the Managing Director for Equatorial Space Systems Co., Lt (Thailand) and Corporate Vice-President for Space Systems.
Dr. Maidana is a distinguished physicist and research engineer with over 22 years of experience in research, design and development with a vast experience in international and cross disciplinary projects at top tier organizations.
He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering and Applied Physics from Idaho State University (USA), a post-doctoral certificate in Space Nuclear Systems Engineering from Washington State University (USA) and the Idaho National Laboratory (USA), and several other graduate level certificates (USA, Italy &
Argentina), including studies in research commercialization, entrepreneurship, and government contracting. Dr. Maidana also holds an affiliate faculty position at Idaho State University, Department of Mechanical Engineering.
Current U.S. national, he was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and resided in countries such as the United States, Switzerland, France and Thailand. Dr. Maidana was a research engineer, consultant, project manager and principal investigator in projects for the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the U.S. Departments of Homeland Security (DHS) and Defense (DoD), the International Committee for Future Accelerators (ICFA), the U.S. Advanced Fuel Cycle Initiative (AFCI), and Thailand’s Geographical Information and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA). He was a tenured lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at Chiang Mai University, an Electronics and Control Systems Laboratory instructor at the ICFA School in Instrumentation for Elementary Particle Physics (CERN/Fermilab/Balseiro Institute) and a Sr. Research Fellow in Applied Physics at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). He is also an expert reviewer for the European Union, The U.S. Department of Energy, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and research journals.
Dr. Maidana current professional activities, besides his management, entrepreneurial and business- related work, are on the energy, space and defense sectors. On the energy sector, it deals with RD&D of components and instrumentation for advanced nuclear reactors and hybrid energy systems while in the aerospace sector, it deals with the design, fabrication, testing and integration of space payloads for activities under microgravity conditions, microsatellite platforms, spacecraft dynamics and control, sounding rockets, small launching vehicles, space nuclear power and propulsion systems, mission analysis, UAVs and the utilization of digital engineering, machine learning and quantum computing on space applications.
Dr. Maidana and his technical office, MAIDANA RESEARCH, were awarded the Small Business Innovation Research awards 2015, 2016, 2019 and 2022 by the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for his innovative work developing components for space, nuclear and industrial applications.
Dr. Maidana is a senior member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).
