Carlena Gunnels

My name is Carlena Gunnels I have over 30 years in the caregiving business. I started at age 16 and I will soon be 59. I have 2 grown children.

I have been certified 2 times the last time I became uncertified I was taking care of a very I'll husband until he passed. I also worked part time during this time. I am a hard worker, compassionate and caring and loyal. I have worked as a restorative aide as well in 2 different facilities and have been a CNA Supervisor at a facility and currently for the last three years I have been a Supervisor and Office Manager. I do all adls, cleaning, medication orders ,set up and reminders,we walk 3xs a day she is 94 yrs young. I also hire and fire employees as well as maintain constant contact with several physicians and her family. Daily vitals, weight and logs if care. I do all transportation to and from appointments and do all the grocery and cloths shopping. I maintain household appliances and car and hire and pay repair men. Every 2 weeks I check time sheets and write out paychecks she signs. I remain in close contact with family and her friends. I have been on call 24 hrs a day for 3 yrs. My normal work week is 7 am to 7pm Monday through Friday.The first 2 yrs before she required 24 he care I worked  12 hr shifts 7 days a week. This last year she required 24 he care and I hired staff  for 7p to 7a. Due to covid, and having to let a couple of girls go she didn't like has made us short so I am back to 7 days a week. Weekends I only work 10 hrs to 10.5 hours so I can rest. I recently gave my 2 week notice and found my replacement and began training. My patient and I are very close and love eachother very much but with the hours, I have no life. They also take no federal or state taxes out which has caused me difficulties. I know nothing about that I have hired 2 agencies to help. I love my little people and even the tough ones seem to sooner or later come around. I have alot of patience some say that of a saint lol. I just think I understand. I was MPA for my grandparents at 18 and cared for them until they were put in a facility. I also took care of my great Aunt and Uncle. I have attended another college Otero Junior College, La Junta, Co. I have worked in facilities, with agencies and in private homes doing everything from tube feeding, to ALS care, dementia, Alzheimer's,Stroke, and mentally ill.

I got my GED through Lamar Community College. Lamar, Colorado and took prerequisites for nursing 

I graduated from Salina Vo-tec certified nurses and geriatric aide with a 4.0 gpa
