Zentech Inc.
Senior Associate Electrical Design Services
During my time with Zentech, I was involved in different types of projects.
New designs, in some cases we designed new drilling rigs, drilling vessels and an assortment of other equipment such as barges, production platforms and work vessels. During these projects I may operate as a project manager, engineering manager, electrical engineer or shipyard on-site supervisor.
Refurbishment, this was the most challenging work that we did, we were given an existing rig or vessel and were tasked with delivering the customer the best piece of equipment while meeting specifications, safety standards and maintaining as much of the original vessel as possible all while keeping within the budget.
Repair, this involved returning the vessel to service after fire, collision or failure of major equipment or systems.
Upgrades, customer sometimes required the upgrade of vessels to remain competitive within the fleet or to meet their client’s contract requirements. This in some cases involved replacement of older equipment with newer or more capable equipment or the addition of new equipment to enhance the capabilities of the vessel or provide new capabilities.
One of my most common tasks was on-site inspection of an existing vessel to plan for future upgrades or repairs. This involved photographing the affected areas, taking detailed measurement and assessing the area for planning purposes. After data was collected, the design phase began and eventually moved to the shipyard.
Friede and Goldman
Electrical designer/ Mechanical designer
Duties with Friede and Goldman included the duties as with Zentech with the inclusion of responsibility for the rack chock leg fixation system. Rack chock is a proprietary system used to lock the legs of a jack up drilling rig and reduce wear to the jacking system. I was responsible for new designs, upgrades to existing systems, contract negotiations, vendor and builder supervision, installation and commissioning.
