About Austin Motz:
I am a developing Engineer challenging myself to create new and meaningful work in integrated circuits (IC). My curiosity drives me to learn quickly, enabling me to focus on solving problems. I value collaboration and accomplish goals by sharing my knowledge and learning from others. My goal is to begin working as I pursue a masters degree and eventually a PhD.
Experience
Mixed Signal Design Intern Teledyne Scientific & Imaging May 2022 - Present (9 months)
- Ported ROIC design into ONC18 PDK
- Collapsed output buffer layout from 3 to 2 layers to provide addititional shielding
- Revised output pad layout to use new foundary designs
- Added and simulated pull up/down devices to column deselct to prevent floating lines
- Simulated DAC performance
Research Intern Lake Shore Cryotronics May 2021 - Aug 2021 (4 months)
R&D of ultra sensitive scientific instrumentation:
- Wrote C++ driver to interface ATMEL 8051 microcontroller to display
- Eliminated noise from front end of M81 modules with spectrum analyzer
- Characterized self heating properties of temperature sensors in dilution refrigerator
- Debugged, modified, and tested PCB design for sensor MUX
Undergraduate Research Assistant Ohio State Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence Jan 2020 - May 2021 (1 year 5 months)
Optimized route planning and reduced generation times by half in RoboDK for a UR-10 robot arm to measure radiation
- Implemented Bluetooth Low Energy connection between Android device and Raspberry Pi to transfer data in a portable soybean analyzer
- Built PTC Thingworx cloud platform and integrated sensor data from Rockwell PLC for monitoring a waterjet
Engineering Intern Etegent Technologies May 2018 - Aug 2019 (1 year 4 months)
- Prototyped designs to inspect exhaust duct of Airforce planes
- Digitally recreated exhaust duct with Open Structure for Motion to find area of damaged coating within 12% accuracy
Education
I am a double major in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Engineering at Ohio State University. I have balanced pursuing both degrees and managed to achieve a 3.58 GPA. During my time at Ohio State I have also taken many graduate courses in circuit design, listed below.
Relevant Graduate Coursework:
Mixed Signal VLSI - Design & analysis of basic VLSI structures: SRAM, registers, logic. Designed a pipelined perceptron with a 256 bit SRAM array for data storage.
Analog IC - CMOS analysis and design of comparators, single ended amplifiers, and differential Op Amps and OTAs. Designed a fulling differential constant gm rail to rail OTA.
Radio Frequency IC Systems - Studied Modulation, Wireless Standards, Distortion, and Noise in RF Systems.
Power Management IC - Theory, design, and applications of integrated power management integrated circuits in VLSI Systems.
Advanced Hardware Architecture Design Techniques - Speed, Area, Power optimization in ASIC design
