Anna Humiston

My life-long passion for novel medicine and neuroscience has led me to discover opportunities with in the field of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering. Such interests are evident in my work ethic and motivation to succeed in my courses as a Chemical Engineering student with a minor in Biomedical Engineering. The courses I have chosen to enroll myself in the past several years comprise complex thinking to brainstorm ways in which to use principles of engineering to improve current medical treatments. Through this rigorous coursework, I mastered how to collaborate with peers to effectively present ideas as well as understand nuances in medicine and engineering. Of the most notable, my Junior Capstone Design Project involved working with senior chemical and electrical engineers to modify the current treatment for Parkinson's Disease, a cause in which I have decided to continue my undergraduate research in. 

I am currently doing electrochemical research in a graduate chemistry lab at Clarkson University, which aims to create dopamine biosensors for medical applications with in the brain. This undergraduate research opportunity provides experience with in the field of Chemistry/Chemical Engineering as well as Biomedical Engineering for I use chemical instruments (electrodes, cyclic voltammeter, and electrochemical cells) to measure potentials of specific biological substances within a variety of solutions. 

As a current junior at Clarkson University studying Chemical Engineering with a minor in Biomedical Engineering, my course load includes classes illustrating chemical engineering principles (thermodynamics, heat transfer, properties of fluids and phases of equilibrium) as well as fundamentals of medicine (ethics, biology, organic chemistry and biomechanics).
