Alyssa Lerner

As a passionate new educator, I am ready to create a dynamic classroom. I believe art education is more than teaching techniques or color theory. Instruction in the arts provides a lens through which students can examine the world around them, opening a window to a new way of seeing and understanding. I believe that fostering creativity is essential for well-rounded development. I aim to provide my students with skills that extend beyond the art room, encouraging critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration. Art is a vehicle through which students explore ideas, solve problems, and make connections that extend far beyond the canvas or the clay. By nurturing their artistic voices, I empower students to express themselves and approach challenges with confidence. My goal is to create a vibrant learning environment where creativity flourishes, and my students are prepared to thrive in all aspects of life by teaching skills that transcend the art room.

In order to create this environment, classroom management is of the utmost importance, having students echo learning targets, the daily agenda, and time reminders helps to keep students on task and aware of the goals for each lesson. I plan to display my learning targets, success criteria, daily agenda, and exemplars of the steps to complete the artwork in my classroom to help achieve my classroom management goals. I am empathetic with my students, understanding that they may be having a hard time and need that extra attention while being stern when necessary. I am a team player who is always willing to help out where I am needed, and I believe that teachers need to be invested in more than just their classroom but in the whole school and district to be effective educators and team members.
