About Allison Levine:
I am a dedicated educator and curriculum developer with a strong drama and English instruction background. I have:
Curriculum Design Expertise: Created and aligned drama curricula for beginning and advanced classes with the Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) standards, incorporating project-based learning with diverse and inclusive lesson plans.
Theatre Leadership: Produced and directed performances managing all aspects of production, including actor auditions, rehearsals, a student-run production team, and production schedules while adhering to budget constraints.
Student-Centered Instruction: Designed units tailored to meet the needs of diverse learners, including second-language learners, students with special needs (SPED), and gifted and talented (GATE) students, ensuring accessibility and equity in education.
Focus on Academic Growth: Integrated student-led academic discourse techniques into lesson plans and emphasized grammar, annotation, and close reading in English support to help students improve their Lexile scores.
My approach is marked by creativity, adaptability, and a commitment to student growth and success in the arts and academic development.
Experience
I have extensive teaching and leadership experience across various educational institutions, spanning drama, English, and curriculum development. At Hawthorne High School, I currently serve as the Drama Production Director and Head of the Drama Department, where I’ve developed a VAPA-aligned drama curriculum and created project-based lesson plans tailored to diverse learners, including second-language learners, SPED, and GATE students. Previously, at Leuzinger High School, I established a thriving drama program while managing productions, mentoring students, and contributing to auditorium renovations. My tenure at Alliance Judy Ivie Burton Technology Academy included creating the entire drama curriculum, leading the English Department, and earning multiple Teacher of the Year accolades while pioneering literacy initiatives and anti-bullying programs. My career is defined by creativity, inclusivity, and a commitment to student success in the arts and academics.
Education
I hold a Master of Arts in Teaching from the Rossier School of Education at the University of Southern California, graduating with honors in 2009, along with secondary English credentials, CLAD credentials, and supplemental drama credentials. My academic foundation includes a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre & Drama from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, with minors in Women's Studies and Literature. Additionally, I completed a prestigious fellowship with the National Writing Project Summer Institute at the University of California, Irvine, in 2024, earning 10 advanced credits.
