Aliya Ricks

I am a Junior Civil Engineering student at the illustrious Howard University with a passion for creating efficient, sustainable, and community-focused infrastructure. I believe that building an effective society starts with designing systems that are safe, resilient, and accessible to everyone. I’m committed to using my engineering skills to improve the world around me and contribute to impactful, long-term solutions.

I have hands-on experience applying engineering principles through academic projects and team-based design work. This includes developing practical solutions for campus infrastructure challenges, contributing to sustainability-focused prototypes, and collaborating on technical problem-solving within project teams. My background as a Head Lifeguard also strengthened skills essential to engineering—such as risk assessment, safety management, leadership, and maintaining operational systems—all of which support my ability to think critically, manage resources, and work effectively within engineering environments.

I am currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering at Howard University, where I’ve developed a strong foundation in engineering mechanics, environmental systems, transportation concepts, and infrastructure design. My coursework includes statics, dynamics, differential equations, physics, and environmental engineering, all of which support my interest in creating efficient, sustainable, and community-focused infrastructure.
