Having a negative mindset when working in the service industry is easy. It is easy to let rude customers and small inconveniences ruin your day, especially when you see your day job as something you need to get through. 

Working in the service industry for seven years has taught me that my time is valuable, even when I am on the clock, busing tables and taking orders. So, instead of turning my brain off for those eight long hours at work, I opt to observe and assimilate. This restaurant job is more than something to get me through college, it is an opportunity to understand, to practice empathy, and to execute the small things with care and understanding.

As someone passionate about psychology and mental health, I aim to take knowledge from every interaction, good or bad. I take pride in being patient and empathetic, using these skills to create a supportive, understanding environment and striving to adapt to individual needs. 

My customer service experience has only enhanced my desire to start a career in the mental health field, and I am so eager to begin my journey.

• Demonstrated the ability to utilize the biologist, psychologist, and sociologist perspectives through foundational concepts and processes relevant to aging.
• Recognized and discussed the factors related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field of aging studies

Child Life Around the Map Project

• Thoroughly interviewed a pediatric surgeon, and a children’s psychosocial consultant about how to successfully run a child life program.
• Gained valuable insight about the importance of individualized care, therapeutic activities, and continuous feedback when concerned with children.
