Description
The Middlesex Sheriff's Office ("MSO") is seeking a qualified professional for the position of Activities / Enrichment Facilitator ("Facilitator") to work as a member of the Program Services team at the Middlesex Jail & House of Correction located in Billerica, MA.
The Facilitator is an integrated member of the Program Services team and is responsible for the planning, organizing, and delivery of activity and enrichment programming at the MJHOC.
The Facilitator reports to the Chief of Treatment and Re-Entry Services or designee. The shift hours for this position are flexed between the hours of 9:00a.m. to 9:00p.m. and the days off are Saturday/Sunday.The shift hours and days off are subject to change based on operational needs and at the discretion of management.
This is a full-time, non-exempt position covered under a collective bargaining agreement (NEPBA, Local 525).Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Offers active and passive activities and enrichment programming to incarcerated individuals.
Schedules and facilitates activities and enrichment programming in housing units and lower security settings. Organizes outside activities, including sports tournaments in recreation yards and lower security settings.
Develops activities to meet the needs of a diverse population (e.g., young adults, older adults, disabled individuals, those with mental health conditions, and those with substance use disorders).Ensures that self-directed activities are carried out in accordance with established activity and enrichment plans.
Creates and adjusts processes and procedures in order to achieve full participation.Works with the Garden Director to implement recreational gardening and green therapy programs.
Collaborates with Case Managers and incarcerated individuals to identify healthy and constructive leisure opportunities as part of Individual Service Plans (ISPs).Works on-one-one with incarcerated individuals to recommend changes or modifications to activity and enrichment plans.
Works with operational and security staff to promotes a safe, and healthy atmosphere for activities and enrichment. Collaborates with Case Managers and other staff to ensure that community-based leisure opportunities are included in written re-entry plans.Organizes motivational and therapeutic events for the incarcerated population involving external partners.
Performs special assignments for facility-wide programs or events that involve volunteers or visitors.
Orders, inventories, and distributes recreational equipment.
Conducts routine inspections of recreational equipment.
Maintains data on activity and enrichment programming and provides reports to administration as requested. Other duties as assigned by the Chief of Treatment and Re-Entry Services or Assistant Superintendent of Program Services.
Working Conditions:
Working in a correctional facility on weekends, nights and holidays;Required to work over eight (8) hours depending on the operational and inmate programing needs of the facility; Required to have direct contact with inmates/detainees in a secure correctional setting; May be required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time;May be required to work alone in an isolated area;May encounter verbal and physical abuse from offenders who are under physical and/or emotional stress;May be required to lift and carry heavy objects up to 100 lbs;May be exposed to adverse weather conditions.
The individual selected for the position of Facilitator shall be cognizant of the confidential and sensitive nature of working in a law enforcement agency and must comply with all institutional rules regarding safety and security.
Qualifications:
Two (2) years of experience as an activities coordinator, enrichment specialist, recreation coordinator, physical education instructor, or similar profession.
Bachelor's degree at an accredited college or university with a major study in an appropriate field of study; Master's Degree preferred; Prior experience working in a correctional setting preferred;Demonstrated ability to assist individuals with mental health and trauma histories; Strong interpersonal, organizational, time management, writing and research skills required; Ability to keep accurate records and generate timely reports;Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access preferred;Must have own transportation.
In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
Must have an active valid driver's license, the right to legally operate a motor vehicle in Massachusetts and pass a criminal background check.
Salary:
Starting annual base salary from $70,844.05 plus additional benefits provided through a collective bargaining agreement.
