    Position Summary

    The Accounting Associate I (AAI) works in a supportive role in several accounting and financial operations functions.

    Work to be performed includes:

    • Various accounting functions in support of cost accounting, general ledger accounting, account reconciliations.
    • Other functions may include support for payroll processing.

    The AAI should have a thorough understanding of DIR's accounting processes, GAAP, and demonstrate the analytical ability to advance to higher levels of the accounting if necessary.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Conduct regular bookkeeping tasks such as preparing journal entries to support financial transactions, reconciling various general ledger accounts, and supporting accounts payable and receivable functions.
    • Prepare bank deposits, preparing backup documents to support invoices, and support to the payment processing function.
    • Support the finance team in ad hoc projects and assignments as required.

    Requirements

    Key Work Competencies

    Communication ability – The ability to communicate clearly and effectively with those inside and outside Financial Operations is necessary. Attitude of leadership and problem solving is expected. The individual in the position is expected to work with the Accounting Manager and Director of Financial Operations to solve problems and resolve issues as they arise. A positive attitude is required.

    Analysis of information – The Accounting Clerk must demonstrate and understanding of the reconciliation process and must be willing to research to find solution to variances. The individual must be able to prepare journal entries to adjust variances found through the reconciliation process. The Accounting Clerk must be able to communicate financial results within financial operations.

    Company and industry knowledge – In addition to a continuing study of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), the staff accountant must demonstrate an appreciation for Government Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) and the Federal Acquisition Register (FAR) and must be committed to continuing education and growth.

    Education Qualifications and Experience

    • High School Diploma or equivalent with 3+ years of general accounting experience.
    • Completion of intermediate college accounting courses with 2+ years of general accounting experience.
    • BA or BBA in Accounting with 1+ year of accounting experience, reflecting a progression in responsibilities and skills.

    Typical Physical Demands and Working Conditions

    • Requires sitting, standing, and bending and a normal range of hearing and vision.
    • Works in a typical office setting in Houston, Texas or may work remotely.
    • Typically works 32 hours per week.
