DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Under a dual-employed fellowship with an accredited medical institution and the City of Houston's Fire Department (HFD), prepares for leadership and medical oversight roles in Emergency Medical Services outside of a hospital/medical setting.
Participates in the direction of paramedics and emergency services personnel by performing functions that parallel an Assistant
EMS Physician Directors' daily duty.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Driving is an essential function of this position, as the selected candidate will be issued a take-home response vehicle and will be required to drive in response to calls for service, disasters, mass casualty incidents, and other significant events while in their role as the on-call medical director, must have a Valid Driver's License and be compliant with the City of Houston policy on driving (AP 2-2).
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position is physically comfortable most of the time occasional periods of stooping, bending, and/or light lifting of materials.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Medical Doctor's degree or Osteopathic Medical degree from an American Medical Association or similarly accredited medical school.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
No experience is required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Requires a license to practice medicine in the State of Texas within three months of the time of hire.
Preference will be given to applicants who have successfully completed an Emergency Medicine Residency program and/or enrolled in an ACGME Accredited
EMS Fellowship program.
Eligible veteran applicants who possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6 are preferred.
The department may administer skills assessment test.
