POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Instrumental Music Director, the Instrumental Music Instructor is responsible for teaching students specifically assigned instrument(s) and/or groups of instruments

Reports to: Director of Instrumental Music

Supervises: No supervisory duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Provide supplemental instruction as assigned by the Instrumental Music Director
Collaborate with and accept guidance and supervision from the Director of Instrumental Music
Implement a variety of teaching techniques to ensure student achievement and engagement. This includes the on-ground and remote instructional settings
Use assigned/approved materials to provide high-quality instruction to the students
Supervise and assume responsibility for all students in any approved off-campus activities
Identify and assess the level of student instrument proficiency and areas for growth and development
Attend scheduled rehearsal and performance events inside and outside the academic day, including nights and weekends
Maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive learning environment
Confer with the Director of Instrumental Music or other administrators on student progress, behavior, and related issues
Act as a representative of Orange Lutheran High School in speech, action, and manners at all times, performing duties with a high degree of respect, tact, and professionalism
Maintain appropriate interaction with students at all times
Work with the Director of Performing Arts or Director of Instrumental Music on any programming aspects of the students under their teaching

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

Other duties as assigned by the supervisor or administrator

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

BA Degree; Music or related field. Higher education is preferred but not required

Experience

Two years of experience teaching the applicable musical instrument; or any satisfactory combination of education, experience, and training that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties listed

LICENCES, CERTIFICATES, AND CLEARANCES

Cleared Background/Fingerprint check
Valid CPR and First Aid certifications
Cleared TB assessment
Completion of Ministry Safe Training

KEY COMPETENCIES

Knowledge

Well-rounded knowledge of music theory and instrumental performance
A level of artistic proficiency on at least one instrument with a working knowledge of the teaching of all instruments in a larger family of instruments, (i.e. woodwinds, brass, percussion, strings, keyboard, etc.)
Familiarity with education techniques specific to Instrumental music

Skills and Abilities

Effective interpersonal skills with students, parents, and co-workers; maintains harmonious relationships
Ability to work irregular hours

An active member of a Christian church; Missouri Synod preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands, handle instruments, feel objects, tools, or controls; communicate verbally and electronically; reach with hands and arms; stand and move throughout the building and/or to other facilities;
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
The employee must be able to hear the conversation and musical pitch at normal levels with or without assistance

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The typical work environment is a climate-controlled school classroom
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to an extended outdoor environment with varying climatic conditions
The noise level is usually moderate and frequently loud
