About You And The Role As thePrincipal
Mechanical Engineer
on our Vehicle Integration team, you will be responsible for driving Ample's Battery System technologies forward through design and innovation.
Examples include but are not limited to:
mechanical components for swappable batteries, automated mechanisms to support battery swapping (lock/unlock), cycle testing, fixtures and tools to assist assembly of large battery packs and efficient solutions for thermal management.
We're looking for someone self-motivated with an innovative mindset who enjoys working in a challenging, fast paced, hands-on, team environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Own Mechanical Engineering products on Ample's Vehicle Integration Team, from design through to prototyping and production
Design and innovate Ample's battery systems with a focus on safety, quality, reliability and product performance for the global market
This includes:
Critical metrics such as weatherproofing, thermal management, structural rigidity, and electrical management.
Taking on complex design challenges yourself
Provide technical leadership and engineering expertise to a team of Mechanical Engineers; Conduct design reviews on an ongoing basis with the team to help make design choices
Implement regulatory safety standards and processes
Plan and execute prototyping and product testing to meet both regulatory and internal safety standards
Coordinate with Quality, Manufacturing and Production teams to ensure timely completion of projects and drive overall process improvements
Take a personal, hands-on approach to problem solving and effectively communicate across multiple teams to address challenges and find solutions
REQUIREMENTS:
B.S. or M.S. degree Mechanical Engineering (M.S. preferred)
Direct experience with electric vehicle battery enclosure and chassis components design
Proven track record of driving technology through innovation
Technical expertise in DFM, GD&T, manufacturing methods and latest additive manufacturing technologies
3-5 years of hands-on rapid prototyping experience including machining, fabrication and welding
Experience with Solidworks and PDM (or equivalent CAD revision management tools)
BONUS:
Experience with EV Battery enclosures design focusing on structural performance, thermal management and weatherproofing
Experience with New Product Introduction; scaling a product from design to manufacturing and production for a global market
