Thermal Design Engineer - Sunnyvale, United States - META

    Meta background
    Description

At Reality Labs we aim to bring together the brightest cross-disciplinary minds in one place to deliver on our mission: build tools that help people feel connected, anytime, anywhere. As a Thermal Design Engineer you will take a critical role in developing systems for VR, AR, Smart Glasses and Wearables, or New Technology Initiatives. You will be part of a team exploring and developing consumer electronics products over the full lifecycle, from prototypes to mass-production. You will work as part of a cross functional team requiring collaboration and curiosity in domains inside and outside thermal engineering. Our ideal candidate has strong thermal engineering fundamentals, CFD tool fluency, manufacturing process knowledge, and experience in thermal modeling, analyzing, testing and launching consumer electronics.

    Thermal Design Engineer Responsibilities

    • Drive novel thermal technology roadmaps with cross-functional teams such as mechanical and electrical engineering, operations and software
    • Distill complex designs to simplified analytical models to quickly identify thermal design approaches.
    • Build CFD models of our HW products in early concept phases and validate through prototype testing.
    • Validate thermal models through prototype testing.
    • Develop thermal throttling policies with cross-functional partners.
    • Balance product performance with various component and product limitations.
    • Partner with Product Design Engineering to provide feedback and recommendations on how to optimize the thermal design for performance and cost.
    • Work with JDM partners to provide feedback on design and prototype performance throughout the build cycle.
    • Travel to vendors up to 20% of time.
    Minimum Qualifications
    • 6+ years experience in thermal modeling and analysis.
    • Experience using CFD tools such as FloEFD (or equivalent) to model and analyze thermal performance.
    • Working knowledge, and demonstrated experience modeling various consumer electronic systems or sub-systems (LCD's, SOC's, etc.).
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Demonstrated experience developing thermal solutions with a wide variety of components and materials such as aerogels, thin film heat spreaders, phase change materials, and other compliant materials
    • High volume consumer product experience
    • Experience in common programming languages, such as Python, Matlab, C, Java, Kotlin, or shell, for development of scripts to support thermal team tools, including data analysis, simulation & test automation, analytical models, stress apps, and control systems.
    • Background in control theory to support thermal control system development.
