- C-I-CARE
- Executes world class practices of service and patient care in support of C-I-CARE standards.
- Uses C-I-CARE templates and the following components for all communication with patients and staff:
- CONNECT with people by calling them their proper name, or the name they prefer (Mr., Ms., Dr.)
- INTRODUCE yourself and your role
- COMMUNICATE what you are going to do, how long it will take, and how it will impact the patient
- ASK permission before entering a room, examining a patient or undertaking an activity
- RESPOND to patient's questions or requests promptly; anticipate patient needs
- EXIT courteously with an explanation of what will come next
- Patient Care/Infusion Room Procedures:
- Monitor and record patients' vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, and pulse rate.
- Administers ordered medications in a safe, accurate, professional and timely manner following policies and procedures.
- Instruct and teach patients about chemotherapy and potential adverse reactions.
- Responsible for ensuring physician orders are completed and signed off on in the EMR.
- Ensure that the patient diagnosis matches the procedure and prescribed chemotherapy drug.
- Communication and Documentation:
- Accurately collects and transmits information between the patient and provider in a courteous, respectful and professional manner, within RN scope of practice.
- Documents appropriate information clearly, accurately, and in a timely manner, according to department and UHA policies and procedures no later than the end of the shift.
- Administrative Duties:
- Performs administrative duties in a timely, accurate and collaborative manner according to policy and procedures within the RN scope of practice, including, but not limited to:
- Answering phones, retrieving voicemails.
- Following up with front office to ensure patient is appropriately scheduled.
- Complete Tasks in EMR Inbox.
- EPIC environment: Assists providers with their in-baskets and open charts; monitor other MD and RN in-baskets when assigned.
- Supplies and Infection Control:
- Maintains nurses' stations; stocking supplies, cleaning and disinfecting equipment and instruments after use on every patient.
- Transports specimens according to policies and procedures in a timely and efficient manner.
- Ensures equipment is working properly, notifying the appropriate person of needed repairs in a timely manner.
- Collaboratively performs departmental duties to ensure OSHA, infection control and accrediting body compliance, including, but not limited to, order drugs and supplies as needed, checking refrigerator/freezer temperature, checking medication/supply expiration dates, ensuring Nucleus inventory machine is updated, in a timely, accurate and efficient manner according to policy and procedure.
- All other duties as assigned including department-specific functions and responsibilities:
- Performs other duties as assigned and participates in organization projects as assigned.
- Adheres to safety, P4P's (if applicable), HIPAA and compliance policies.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Current Oncology Nursing Society Chemotherapy Biotherapy Course certification required.
- One (1) or more years of oncology experience; progressively responsible clinical experience required.
- Nursing\RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure And/Or Compact State Licensure required
- Clinical\BLS - Basic Life Support required
- Verbal and written communication skills demonstrate courtesy, compassion and helpfulness in a professional manner towards employees, patients and patient families.
- Basic high school math, English aptitudes and legible handwriting.
- Basic Windows skills to include keyboarding, mouse movement and computer data entry skills to enter patient information.
- Organizational and multi-tasking skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology/anatomy and EMR systems.
- Ability to work with others in a flexible, cooperative and collaborative manner.
- Requires concentration to handle varying procedures and interruptions.

Job Summary
Provides appropriate care to patients and their families in a compassionate and professional manner, within the Registered Nurse (RN) scope of practice as outlined in University HealthCare Alliance (UHA) policies and procedures.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
Oncology RN (Oncology Nurse) - Works under general supervision in performing nursing services and providing care to cancer patients in the infusion room.

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
