    This posting creates a pool of candidates for future positions that may become available.

    JOB SUMMARY
    Provides comprehensive speech-language services including assessment, therapy and instruction for students with speech-language disabilities as a member of a multi-discipline team. Consults/collaborates with other early intervention personnel in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of services provided.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provides therapy instruction to students with speech/language disabilities as stated in the Individualized Family Service Plan.
    • Develops instructional materials and provides individualized and group instruction in order to meet the needs of each child.
    • Assesses the progress of children on a regular basis utilizing tests, measurements and observation skills and/or modified-adapted assessment devices. Provides progress reports as required.
    • Conducts speech/language assessments as part of a comprehensive evaluation.
    • Serves as a member of the Individual Family Service Plan team as appropriate.
    • Assists in the planning and development of child's Individual Family Service Plan.
    • Facilitates the implementation of special education and eligible services in natural environments.
    • Assists in organizing and implementing a continuum of appropriate services in natural environments.
    • Provides consultation and support to other service providers regarding implementation of Individualized Family Service Plan reasonable modification, etc.
    • Consults and confers regularly with colleagues regarding the educational, social, physical or emotional goals and objectives of students.
    • Consults regarding MOI, equipment and instructional strategies appropriate for students with speech/language disabilities.
    • Supervises teacher assistants supporting the instruction of students with communication disabilities.
    • Remains knowledgeable of current trends and practices in the field of Speech Pathology.
    • Communicates with parents through conferences, IEP meetings, and other means to discuss pupil's progress and the Individual Family Program.
    • Maintains accurate, complete and correct records, case files, etc., as required by program regulations, Board policies and federal, state and local laws.
    • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
    • Attends and actively participates in staff/facility meetings. Provides input regarding the planning of instructional goals, objectives and methods of instruction for students with speech/language disabilities.
    • Improves his/her own professional growth through an on-going program of reading, workshops, seminars, in-service activities, conferences and/or advanced coursework at universities, colleges, institutions of higher education.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

    Education
    • Eligible for certification as a Speech-Language Pathologist as required by the Maryland State Department of Education
    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
    • Knowledge of the principles and practices of speech-language pathology as applied to children and the school situation. Knowledge of school system organization and operation.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with and to gain the confidence and cooperation of students, parents, the school staff, and with medical agency personnel.
    • Ability to interpret and provide/supervise appropriate speech-language services within an educational milieu.
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with diverse populations.
    • Ability to employ business technology tools (e.g. Email, AACPS Intranet, electronic benefits enrollment tool, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.).

    Employee must retain active enrollment, affiliations, and memberships as a condition of employment.
    • Hold or be eligible for for a National Provider Identifier (NPI) issued by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES) required;
    • Must be actively enrolled in Maryland Medicaid. Employee not holding NPI or Maryland Medicaid enrollment upon hire must apply for NPI within 10 days of employment and Maryland Medicaid immediately upon receipt of NPI. Employee must retain active NPI and Maryland Medicaid enrollment as a condition of employment.
