    Job Summary


    The Surgical Technologist II - Gastrointestinal works under the supervision of an RN to perform a variety of duties for patients undergoing advanced and interventional endoscopic procedures.

    Performs direct patient care of patients undergoing an endoscopic procedure.

    • This position provides patient care of a therapeutic, technical nature, performing advanced therapeutic interventional endoscopy procedures that support and assist the work of the physician, RN and GI Team for the good of the patient
    • Sets up table, instruments and supplies required for specific procedures ensuring appropriate instruments, scopes and supplies are accurately set up
    • Follows aseptic techniques when opening sterile supplies and setting up procedures and discards any contaminated supplies according to established written procedures
    • Assist the patient before, and during the procedure by assisting with appropriate hospital clothing, positing patient and providing emotional support as needed
    • Assist physicians, passes instruments, medical devices and adjust lighting as needed during procedure
    • Demonstrates competence in care of specimens, (biopsies, cultures, frozen section) and in the accurate recording, labeling, and handling of specimens at all times
    • Assists the physician with diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound procedures, ERCP, fine needle aspiration with slide preparation, biliary and pancreatic duct stents, esophageal stents, esophageal dilations, specimen collection and other related procedures/duties
    • Cleans all equipment, instruments, carts and rooms following written process and procedures and restocks / resets for next procedure
    • Completes high-level disinfection of endoscopes. Accurately documents scope reprocessing events; monitors all scope inventory and cleans all scopes weekly.
    • Disinfect and document scope reprocessor and scope storage cabinets
    • Restocks room as required
    • Maintains par levels; orders all supplies and stock for the GI Lab; checks expiration dates on a monthly basis and flags soon-to-expire supplies and instruments
    • Maintains all equipment and coordinates repairs with biomed and clinical engineering.
    • Attends staff and hospital wide meetings and serves on Hospital wide taskforces as assigned
    • Consistently interacts with physicians, peers, other departmental personnel, volunteers and external service providers in a courteous and professional manner
    • Employee must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the C-I-CARE Standards of the Hospital. C-I-CARE is the foundation of Stanford Healthcare - Tri-Valley's patient-experience and represents a framework for patient-centered interactions
    Job Qualifications


    • High School graduate or equivalent
    • College level education preferred
    • Graduate of a surgical technologist program preferred
    Experience


    • Two (2) years of interventional/advanced GI or endosurgery experience
    License/Certifications


    • American Heart Association BLS Certification required
    • SGNA Associates Program Certification preferred
    • Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor Certification preferred
    Level Requirements


    • All responsibilities of GI Tech I
    • Precepts new staff members
    • Troubleshoots of all equipment
    • Participates in hospital committees

    Base Pay Scale:
    Generally starting at $ $53.00 per hour


    The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

    This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
