    Minimum Qualifications Open Competitive:
    A bachelor's or higher-level degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems.


    OR
    A bachelor's or higher-level related degree with eighteen credit hours in Computer Science.


    OR

    A total of two years of experience in the following computer related areas: network, server, storage, and systems management; telecommunications; IT customer support and training; computer installation, diagnosis and repair; technical writing; computer security; knowledge management; database administration, design and management; internet/intranet development, design, and maintenance; information technology project management; design and development of geographic information systems or computer aided drafting applications; computer programming; business/systems analysis; program design; or program testing.



    Transfer:

    Open to NYS employees with one year of permanent competitive service as an Information Technology Specialist 2 or Information Technology Specialist 2 Programming, G-18;
    OR in a title G-16 or above deemed administrative under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law.

    NYS HELPS:
    This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).

    Duties Description Under the direction of a Manager Information Technology Services 2, SG-29, within the Chief Technology Office/Enterprise Network Services/Data Center Networks group, the Information Technology Specialist 2, SG-18, will provide technical support for hardware, software and connectivity in the NYS ITS voice and data networks, and remote locations, in support of client networking activities and ongoing mission-critical initiatives.

    Specific duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:


    • Support various projects and Data Center Consolidation initiatives and/or support network environments in the data/voice Data Center networks and remote locations.
    • Implement and support changes to the network including code upgrades, cable infrastructure, network software and hardware.
    • Process assigned ITSM Service Requests for implementation/modification of Load Balancing and Firewall policies on network equipment.
    • Assist in the resolution of network issues and outages.
    • Coordinate with User Support and System Administrators to provide Level II support for technical solutions.
    • Configure, install and troubleshoot network equipment in the NYS data centers. Equipment consists of voice and data communications equipment such as cabling, firewalls, routers, switches, IPS devices, servers, VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) phones, WAP (Wireless Access Point) devices, etc., manufactured by Arista, Aruba, Cisco, Dell, Hewlett Packard, Juniper, Lenovo, Meraki, Palo Alto, etc.
    • Develop and maintain detailed technical documentation of active infrastructure, including Visio diagrams, operations procedures and training manuals.
    • Independently further IT data communications training, including manufacturer-specific such as Arista, Aruba, Cisco, Dell, Hewlett Packard, Juniper, Lenovo, Meraki, Palo Alto, etc.
    • Utilize network monitoring tools such as Zenoss, Splunk, NfSen, Wireshark, etc., to monitor equipment in the data centers reporting issues to management as appropriate.
    • Understand data networking protocols including TCP/IP; OSI; OSPF; BGP; HTTP; SSL; DNS; TLS; WAP; and other Local Area Network/Wide Area Network (LAN/WAN) protocols.
    • Working outside of normal business hours and on-call may be required due to the 24x7x365 nature of the systems supported by this team.
    • Occasional travel may be required.
