- Works with teachers, administrators, and fellow Design team members to design, implement, and evaluate instructional pilots of aspects of the new school model, aligned to the mission and vision.
- Engages in ongoing assessment of student progress in instructional pilots through a variety of tools, collecting and documenting student feedback to drive refinements, such as developing prototypes to address the feedback.
- Builds and maintains meaningful relationships with students at Redesign high school and feeder middle schools.
- Leads and oversees the work of the Student Design team, a Redesign advisory team of eight to twelve student leaders.
- Engages with students at feeder middle schools; works with middle and high school leaders to contribute to effective student enrollment campaign from 8 thto 9 thgrade, ensuring high matriculation rates; and seeks to engage students of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Establishes and leads development of systems and structures to collect, analyze, share, and reflect on impact data to enhance understanding and continuously improve instructional program design.
- Leverages pilot learning and research of best practice to recommend key design decisions, including aligning the vision for school culture and extra-curricular offerings with the instructional model.
- Supports codification of best practices during pilot experiences by memorializing and standardizing redesign resources.
- Develops an understanding of best practices in implementing a new and bold school model; stays current with latest research and practices of other high-performing innovative school districts; and incorporates relevant practices.
- Collaborates with other Design team members to plan and execute school-based, interactive events to immerse community in new instructional model, including installations, open house nights, film screenings and discussions, etc.
- Actively participates in regular professional development activities, both internal and external, such as attending inspiration visits, reflective discussions of professional practices, attending conferences, etc.
- Advances the development of a bold and innovative new school model while affirming a culture of high expectations and ensuring that the school's vision and mission are reaching the students furthest from opportunity every day.
- Represents the work of Redesign efforts in the local community, building awareness of and trust in our work; and crafts an articulate and compelling Redesign story that helps people connect with the work.
- Bachelor's degree.
- Previous exposure to or experience in the education sector a plus.
- A deep belief that all students can thrive in a challenging, high-quality, nurturing, and supportive learning environment; and a deep commitment to educational equity and serving the needs of students furthest from opportunity.
- Passion for new school models and experience designing and incubating innovative, student-centered practices.
- Proven ability to build meaningful relationships with students, including students furthest from opportunity.
- Experience with human-centered design process preferred.
- Track record of managing towards and achieving exceptional results for students, particularly those furthest from opportunity.

Description
Position OverviewDC Public Schools recently launched a partnership with XQ, the nation's leading organization dedicated to rethinking the high school experience to empower all graduates to succeed in life. XQ supports schools and districts across the country to work with their communities to translate bold ideas into action and create more rigorous and equitable schools. Made possible by XQ's partnership facilitated by DC Public Education Fund, all DCPS high schools will have the opportunity to engage in a design journey with their communities.
The Redesign Student Experience Coach DC+XQ will be dedicated to one Redesign high school, serving on a team of up to four full-time Design team members, working to establish a new instructional model that will serve the needs of all students, particularly those furthest from opportunity. The Redesign Student Experience Coach DC+ XQ will support instructional pilots designed to incubate and refine aspects of the new school model while ensuring the model is student-centered and responsive to students' needs and interests. This will include collaborating closely with and facilitating the work of the Student Design team to ensure their active engagement in visioning, designing, and providing feedback throughout the Redesign process. The Redesign Student Experience Coach DC+XQ will also build the capacity of the school's teachers and staff to create student-centered learning experiences through coaching support and professional development. This role is designed for an outstanding educator with deep instructional expertise who is passionate about new school models and innovative practices. This role is a one-year, grant-funded position, with the potential for extension pending additional funding.
