    The PositionPrincipal Manager Portfolio Strategy & Planning- Translational MedicineSummary: The Principal Manager Portfolio Strategy and Planning for Translational Medicine is responsible for Translational Medicine's Portfolio Strategy and Planning.

    As a strategic partner and member of the Translational Medicine Leadership Team (TM LT) you will help the Translational Medicine organization to navigate the future development of novel therapeutics for patients.

    The position impacts gRED early stage and PD late stage portfolio across all therapeutic areas. You will interact with senior leadership from the Research, Clinical, Development Sciences, Product Development, Regulatory and Commercial organizations.

    The ideal candidate has a background that can combine principles from science, strategy, and business in order to enable lifesaving therapeutics for patients.

    The candidate has the ability to tackle complex high-level problems and develop cohesive strategic frameworks while utilizing analytical/logic based skills to drive decisions and drive tangible action within the organization.

    Roles and Responsibilities:

    Be a strategic thought-partner and trusted advisor to the VP and Head of Translational Medicine on business portfolio strategies and solutions.

    Organize and prioritize critical issues and required information for the VP of TM to facilitate efficient execution and decision making.

    Create portfolio-wide (ESPC and LSPC) insights for molecule specific drug development, translational research projects, portfolio throughput, timelines and milestones, risk assessments, productivity, and innovation strategies for Translational Medicine.

    Develop TM portfolio insights to guide near and long-term planning for senior Translational Medicine leadership. Work with appropriate leaders to develop recommendations in partnership with cross-functional stakeholders to translate strategy into tactics and execution. Drive internal data generation and external data acquisition efforts to improve analytics. Strategic advisor to the Translational Medicine leaders on molecules and translational research projects.

    Frame / assess clinical development options from Research to Commercial, identify critical factors for decision making and present risk assessments.

    Lead strategic portfolio planning and execution of complex cross functional initiatives that drive TMs core mission. In partnership with TMLT helps drive effective execution of Translational Medicine Portfolio and Resourcing strategies.

    Build and manage key relationships with leaders throughout Roche to ensure effective strategic planning, interfaces and processes for TM that align across the organization.

    Works closely with the Translational Medicine Business Operations team to ensure governance and review structure is timely and aligned with portfolio priorities Successful factors include the ability to:

    Skilled at distilling complex/abstract problems into succinct strategic frameworks and tactical plans Strong analytical skills, quantitative modeling and complex problem-solving Ability to influence Directors/VPs in Research, Development and Commercial functions through active listening, communication and facilitation outcomes Clearly articulate critical analytical findings to senior leadership and drug development teams Facilitate discussions with gRED leaders, cross-functional teams and key stakeholders to work together to develop insights and align on strategic decisions.

    Passion for drug development, life sciences and our patient centric mission Demonstrate creativity, independence, and initiative in resolving issues Understand the strategic, big picture priorities while managing the detailed execution of deliverables Navigate ambiguous situations to unearth and address core issues or challenges Independently lead and drive cross-functional initiatives, projects or programs Facilitate resolution of issues relating to portfolio projects and capacity initiatives Qualifications and Requirements:
    . University degree in a STEM related field is required. Advanced degree or equivalent is desired.

    Experience in one of the following is common but not required:

    management consulting, market research, market planning, investment banking, competitive intelligence, business development, R&D, drug development, data science, public health, health economics, statistics.

    7+ years experience in drug development, life sciences, and/or healthcare industry Able to demonstrate strong applied knowledge in the biotech R&D environment Proven track to effectively partner with executive leaders in scientific/technical organizations Proven experience in business operations and/or project management for complex projects at scale Highly skilled in strategic thinking, planning, and execution Excellent written and verbal executive communication skills Exceptional influencing skills:
    consistent and proven track record of helping internal partners/stakeholders address strategic opportunities and solve complex problems; strong facilitation skills Demonstrate the ability to be effective in dealing with ambiguities Experience in leading organizations and people through significant change and prioritization Experience in influencing and presenting complex strategic topics to VP and EVP level stakeholders Demonstrated experience in analytical, planning and organizational skills Demonstrated aptitude for collaborating in cross-functional teams Strong ability to communicate and influence across global, regional and local cultures and business Ability to retain focus on long term goals while addressing high switching frequency for short term actions Knowledge of Genentech or Roche culture, systems and organization is a plus


    NOTE:

    The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $127,400- $236,600. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
