    Job DescriptionMachinist


    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Maintenance Machinist reports to the Maintenance Team; operates in compliance with trade regulations; performs maintenance and preventative maintenance functions; operates maintenance equipment; follow blueprint designs; dismantles and rigs equipment and materials; participates in achieving the company quality goals; operates in compliance with company safety practices; and performs other duties as assigned.

    JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESPerforms corrective maintenance and preventative maintenance dutiesKnowledge of all codes and documents required by SOPKnowledge of all related equipment such as electrical and pneumatic control systems, motors, drives, heating and ventilating equipment, compressors, pumps, blowers, ovens, shafts/bearings, heat transfer systems, material handling systems, process piping and waste water removal systemsCapable of precisely aligning pumps, shafts and motors independentlyWorks clean and safe, sets standard for junior mechanics in this areaSupports supervision in providing leadership for specific work (job leader)

    Operates all Maintenance related equipment Ability to troubleshoots, diagnoses and repairs/adjusts all types of related machineryResponsible for marinating over 2000 critical pieces of equipmentExpert knowledge and precision use of pipe threading machines, electrical test equipment, hand/power tools, forklifts, cranes, dollies, lifts, roller bars and hoistsKnowledgeable in the use of mechanical diagnostic equipment and techniquesFollow rules and regulations within specialty tradeEnsures operations meet state requirementsLeads and assists other mechanics and contractorsKnowledge of dismantling and rigging equipment for safe transportKnowledge of setting and aligning all related equipmentNotifies team leader of adjustments in spare part stockHas specific knowledge of specialized CMPT equipmentProvides instruction and knowledge sharing to more junior level mechanicsCapable of performing any type of troubleshooting of complex equipmentPerforms independent on off shifts without technical supportProvides input to blueprint designPlans, designs, interprets and works from standard and non-standard blueprints and drawingsAbility to recognize conflicts in design prior to work beginningAbility to specify material needs for job completionProvides technical guidance for the design of new processes and systemsParticipates in achieving the company quality goals:

    Operates in compliance with company safety practices:

    complies with and aids in the development of departmental safety rules; ensures all equipment is in good working order and operates in a safe manner; follows procedures for handling and disposal of chemicals; monitors area for hazards; uses safety equipment when required; and maintains safe, clean work area.

    Performs other duties as assigned.
    RequirementsSKILLS AND EXPERIENCE15+ years of experience as a maintenance machinist in a manufacturing environment is required.

    Preferred experience will be in a chemical or pharmaceutical environmentsJourneyman Machinist certification with 5+ years of experience is preferredAdvanced mechanical knowledge in the maintenance trades is required.

    Knowledge of rotating equipment (Air Compressors, Pumps, Mixers, etc.) is required. Electrical experience is desired. Troubleshooting ability is necessary. Familiarity with and ability to use measuring instruments such as dial indicators, micrometers, scales, etc. is required.

    Must possess good mechanical aptitudes ranging from troubleshooting of pumps, process systems and hydraulic equipmentAbility to access and correct all mechanical issues with little to no assistanceRequired ability to estimate cost and duration of assembly as well as disassembly and modificationMaintains technical knowledge by attending workshops, reviewing publications and establishing personal networksLeadership experience is a plusCooperative attitude and the ability to make critical judgments during the production process are necessary.

    Possesses the written, verbal and interaction skills necessary to work with internal and external customersA working knowledge of other maintenance skills such as HVAC, plumbing, welding, etc.

    Excellent mechanical and mathematical abilities are required.


    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    This position requires the ability to work in seated or standing positions for prolonged periods of time; perform sustained manual activities at moderate to heavy levels of exertion, including lifting and moving loads of minimum of 50 pounds, climb ladders/stairs and work on elevated platforms; use hand tools and operate fixed and mobile plant equipment; work and travel throughout plant environment of varied temperature and humidity; a full range of motion; and to wear personal protective devices.
