    The McLean Hospital Division of Alcohol, Drugs, and Addiction is a highly productive clinical research environment that has led and participated in landmark studies in the field.

    Under the direction of Roger Weiss, M.D., a PI of the New England Consortium Node of the NIDA Clinical Trials Network (CTN), we are currently leading a major multi-site CTN trial focused on treatment of opioid use disorder.

    We are looking for a Research Assistant to work on this and other projects in the Division of Alcohol, Drugs, and Addiction at McLean Hospital.


    Working under the supervision of a Principal Investigator and following established policies and procedures, the Research Assistant may be responsible for the following activities: recruiting and evaluating patients for studies; collecting and organizing patient data, including via patient interviews; scheduling patients for study visits; performing clinical tests such as taking vital signs, urine screens, etc; maintaining and updating data generated by the study, and assistance with preparing scientific presentations and writing papers for publication.


    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Provides assistance on clinical research studies as per study guidelines and protocols.
    • Recruits and evaluates potential study patients. Per protocol instruction, conducts in-person or telephone interviews or schedules patient for study visit and screening. May be required to perform clinical tests such taking vital signs, urine screens, etc.
    • Interact with patients/subjects with regard to study, including patient education, procedural instruction, patient interviews, and follow-up. May serve as a liaison between patient and physician and other clinical staff.
    • Responsible for collecting data and maintaining patient information database for study. May be required to input data, do analysis and run various reports. Maintains patients records as part of record keeping function.
    • Perform literature searches and prepare slides for scientific presentation.
    • Opportunities exist for writing papers for scientific journals.
    • Responsible for communicating various study information or packets to study participants.
    • Answers all inquiries regarding study protocol. Refers participants when appropriate to supervisor or clinical staff.
    • Monitors and sets up any needed equipment.
    • Maintains inventory and orders supplies when necessary.
    • Performs all other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications


    QUALIFICATIONS:
    B.S. OR B.A. at the time of employment start date.

    New Graduate with relevant course or project work.


    SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

    • Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with the study participants.
    • Good oral and written communication skills.
    • Knowledge of clinical research protocols.
    • Knowledge of computer programs, databases, etc.
    • Excellent organization skills and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks.
    • Careful attention to detail.
    • Ability to demonstrate professionalism and respect for participants' rights and individual needs.


    All employees must possess basic computer skills to use a variety of electronic or online systems for communication, clinical and administrative purposes.
