    Summary:

    Supporting Heartland Alliance affiliate companies, the Financial Analyst provides a broad range of accounting and reporting services, manages grant finances, engages in team initiatives and projects, and ensures compliance with government and funder regulations.

    To be successful, the Financial Analyst must perform a variety of financial activities including planning, analysis, budgeting, and reporting.

    This position requires strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills and the ability to present financial information and models in a concise and comprehensible manner.

    The Financial Analyst is a strategic business partner, providing program staff with financial guidance as well as developing and maintaining productive relationships with funders.

    The Financial Analyst leverages industry knowledge and best practices to promote the mission and vision of the Heartland Alliance Finance Department and the institution.

    Supports culture development and management efforts.


    Essential Functions:


    Duties & Responsibilities The Financial Analyst is responsible for maintaining the general ledger, executing regular close procedures, assisting with financial planning and budgeting processes, analyzing financial statements and reports, developing financial models, preparing projections, and performing research and analysis.

    Analytics

    Research and analyze business and financial data, provide forecasting support as required.

    Perform, monitor, and manage accounting tasks related to daily, month-end, and year-end close (e.g., recording and review of transactions, variance analysis, allocation of expenses, indirect cost calculation, etc.).

    Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), company policies, funder, government and organizational rules and regulations.
    Planning and Budgeting

    Manage grant portfolios of awards, including budgeting, cost projections, reporting, and spending analysis.
    Provide guidance and consultation with business planning and budgeting processes.
    Oversee completion of monthly billings.
    Assist on financial functions, such as assessing, auditing, planning, budgeting, taxes, consolidation, cost control and project control.
    Reporting

    Prepare reports and projections based on analysis.
    Provide financial models and forecasting as required.
    Assist with annual audit engagements and serving as lead on funder audits.
    Provide technical assistance and guidance to grantees and stakeholders.

    Education and Experience:
    Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline required. Master's degree preferred.
    Minimum two (2) years of accounting or finance experience preferred.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (K/S/A):


    Proficiency in Microsoft Office specially Excel, Internet Explorer, Outlook/Exchange; Windows operating systems; and experience with accounting/finance software; experience working with Blackboud Financial Edge is desirable.

    Excellent communication skills. Strong networker, convener, relationship builder and communicator with experience collaborating with diverse work teams and stakeholders.
    Proven knowledge of financial strategies.
    Outstanding organizational and multitasking skills, meticulous attention to detail, and ability to produce high-quality work and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
    Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information possessing skills to handle situations in a professional and diplomatic manner.
    A high degree of collaboration and emotional intelligence, self-motivation, and analytical ability.

    Strong analytical thinking and problem solving skills to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

    Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
    Ability to work independently and remain self-motivated with minimal direct supervision.
    Strategic thought partnership and consultancy skills.

    Work Arrangement:
    This role is eligible for a "hybrid" or "remote" work arrangement.

    If hybrid, it is expected this person would be able to meet for "in person" meetings when needed or at the request of others.

    In-person meetings may be required on a regular basis (weekly, monthly, etc.). There may also be the availability to work from home when appropriate.
